Jim thompson shop question
I think many of you (esp Bob) may be able to help me with this.
Which is the best JT outlet to go to? I notice on their site they have a couple in BK and am primarily looking for fabrics for furniture/cushions and home wares? As we have such limited time in BK which would be the best to go to? (and do you know what time they are open to) Also plan on going to Rasi Sayam (sp?) as per Bobs recomendation and trying to spend an afternoon on Sukmvhit (My treasures and pleasures book arrived yesterday took just over 1 day!! already read loads it's FANTASTIC Thanks Oh and all you Boston GTG goers have a fantastic time, wish i could make it don't forget to let us know how it went Jane X |
THe best range of stuff is at the main JT store at Suriwong Road so if you have limited time go there. It is quite centrally located near Silom. The discount store where you can save quite a bit on ends and disontinued fabrics is at the end of Sukhumvit at Soi 93. It is a bit of a trek - after you select fabric in the main store they will call up the outlet for you and advise you whether the outlet has the same fabric on discount. Then you can decide if you want to go there. JT does not have a lot of homeware at the outlet, has a limited range in the main store.

the best place to go is to the outlet on soi 93, sukhumvit...they have 3 floors of left overs and samples (fabrics) plus one floor of general merchandise...we easily found chair coverings for 3 different projects...it is far easier to look at the fabrics there than at the main store as well...they are all displayed on huge bolts on most floors...savings are 30-90%...mostly 60% i would say...silks, cottons, brocades, etc...the whole gamet...also dress/shirt/linings, etc...the staff of young men are very helpful, but only if you ask...ask the doorman to get you a taxi when you want to leave...
can't miss the shop on the left side of soi 93 down about 2 blocks...large brown JT sign...plan to spend a couple of hours... they will ship for you but it is expensive...they pack the fabrics up so tightly you will not believe it...instruct them how you want the finished package to be and they will try to accomodate you...nice guys.. teh outlet on suriwong (way down past the ramada hotel) has only fabric...very limited selection, but all nice stuff...on the 2nd floor there are quite a few lite weight fabrics...nice walk from main store to the outlet--lots of the best of bkk shops along there...visit the main store if you can...great place for lunch... we always visit the main store first and then go to the outlets...that way you have some comparison...the fabrics for home are upstairs and outback in the main store...small area of rolled fabrics...the rest are on huge swinging display arms...easier to look at in outlets, honestly... we take samples from home of our colors, fabrics etc to help us decide what will look best with our existing stuff... |
Thanks both
I am definately going to go to one of these stores i LOVE JT and really would like to get some fabrics for home as we are currently renovating our house and i am very fond of the "Thai" style!! Will try to do both but at least i have a clearer picture of the stores now Jane X |
Hi Jane,
I'm very new to this board and delighted with it. But there have been many mentions of some sort of get together in Boston and/or perhaps elsewhere too. What is it you were referencing to as GTg goers? bon |
