I am getting a bit confused, there has been a lot of recommendations to eat at Lord Jim's - now that is a restaurant at the Oriental - right? Jim Thompson's is the museum, shop and outlets? Does it have a restaurant which I am sure some have recommended or am thinking of Lord Jim's.

lord jim is the fabulous oriental hotel restaurant overlooking the river where they serve among other things a wonderful buffet luncheon for about $27, consisting of lots of sea foods as well as other things...

jim thompson was the american ex pat who single handedly revitilized the thai silk industry...he disappeared in malaysia in 1967...
his company has shops in many of the leading hotels in thailand...they also have a main store on suriwong rd in bkk that has a wonderful cafe on the 2nd floor...there are also outlet shops in two places in bkk and one in phuket...his house in bkk is the #2 tourist attraction in bkk, imo...there is a wonderful cafe as well as restaurant and JT shop there as well...the company also runs among other places the JT farmers market restaurant which is roughly in back of the dusit thani hotel on a soi off of silom rd..

at any of his shops you can get business cards which spell out the locations..

his restaurants are very reasonable and amongst the best food in bkk...his shops are expensive but amongst the best quality shopping in thailand

Lord Jim's is in the Oriental Hotel and is a terrific restaurant which has a fabulous lunch buffet.

The other restaurant that has been mentioned a lot and which is very good is in the Jim Thompson House/ Museum complex (not the store). It is a very pleasant place to have lunch when you go to visit the house. I'm not sure you need to go out of your way to go there but it's an excellent choice if you're in the area.

Bob is 100% on this one (as usual) with telling you about lunches at Jim Thompson house/museum and that the quality of JT goods is excellent, though more expensive than a lot of the Thai silks.

gloria....you need to try the cafe at the main store....it is excellent...it is also about the cheapest lunch we have in bkk....400B on this last trip...

where is the main store? we ate at his house when we were there. is the main store restaurant any better?

the main store is on suriwong rd at the corner of rama IV....suriwonf runs from rama IV to new road near the sheraton...

the two have somewhat similar menus...the cafe is small and imtimate..it is a room off of the main sales floor on the 2nd floor near to the childrens clothing area...they ahve both hot and cold dishes and fabulous desserts....it is one of our favorite places for lunch in bkk....this year there were tons of local business men and women in there taking their lunch which i found interesting....its very cheap for a decent meal...
at the house the restaurant is much larger and modern...i think the menu was very similar...perhaps slightly larger....you can eat either inside or outside....the new restaurant (opened last year) is very nice...the commercialism that the JT foundation has allowed around the house is a detraction from the wonderful house and grounds that existed alone along the klong in the past...it is not progresss, but the restaurant is a good addition...you are only a 3 minute walk from the national stadium skytrain stop...
