jeweller in Bangkok?
Hi - just wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable jeweller in Bangkok.
|
Most of us use SJ which has been Kathie's jeweler for over 20 years. I'm sure when she sees this post, she'll respond. Happy Travels!
|
The jeweler I've been using for the last 20 years: SJ International, 125/8 Sawankhalok Road, Dusit, Bangkok, phone 02-2342446, 02-2342447, 02-2411875
Call them and they will pick you up at your hotel and return you to your hotel after your shopping. |
There was just an extensive article in one of the travel mags I get, about gems around the world. A number of gem centers, and in a number of countries, were noted. SJ Int'l was the first shop mentioned for Thailand. I would have to look up the article to see the name of the other store listed. I had not heard of it, personally. I think I would certainly give S J Int'l a try. Very reputable.

Don't forget to ask for Lily!

And don't forget to tell Lily that Kathie from Seattle sent you
Aloha! |
as an alternative we have used a jeweler on soi 4, sukhumvit rd within the very grotty nana hotel...it is one block from sukhumvit or less and near to the nana skytrain stop...
this is a family run business and is small. they do custom work as well as over the counter ready made pieces...its easy to shop there and very friendly... they have many many western customers and are very used to their taste... the shops name is: thai stone jewelry and is in the back right hand corner of the hotel lobby...ignore the hotel...its a dump from the 1960's |
I will be going to Bangkok for the first time in Jan. and would like to stop by SJ Jewelers. Do they have a website?
|
Yes, they do have a website. The prices on the website are full retail prices. You'll pay much less in person in Bangkok... especially is you say I sent you as per HT's instructions above.
|
Lily will give you very good pricing if you mention Kathie's name.
I believe, and others can confirm this, the gems get better the further back into the store you go. Some of the pieces are absolutely gorgeous. My thanks to Kathie for recommending SJ here on Fodors! :) |
You are welcome, easytraveler and all my other Fodors freinds.
It is true that the more expensive pieces in the display cases are toward the back. But have a seat at any of the cases and they will bring things to show you. Remember they also have lots of loose stones. I often buy loose stones and have them custom-make pieces I want. |
