jewelery in BKK

I understand that there are pearls everywhere, but does anyone have a good, honest jeweler in BKK? Many years ago my mom-in-law brought me a beautiful ruby and gold ring. Are things like that still avilable at a good price?

Pearls aren't the best deal in Bangkok, sapphires and rubies are. If you do a search on Jewelry in Bangkok, you'll find dozens of posts. In many of them, I give some basic advice about buying jewelry anywhere (know about what you are buying, have an expert show you how to tell good quality from poor qialitu from exceptional quality, know what the price would be in your own country). Also, in many of these posts, I recommend the jeweler I've been purchasing from for some 20 years, SJ International.

Here is my answer from a question yesterday: I've been buying from Lily at SJ International for years. If you tell her that Kathie from Seattle sent you, the prices will drop significantly. Call them and they will pick you up at your hotel.

SJ International
phone 02-2432446 or 02-2432447 or 02-2411875.
They are located at 125/8 Sawankhalok Road, Dusit, Bangkok.

thank you Kathie, you are a treasure of info. I think I queried jewelery thailand and only got 1 result!

Spell it american style "Bangkok jewelry" and you'll get lots of old posts!

And yes, SJ is fantastic. I've been shopping there for years since the first time I used the "Kathie in Seattle" phrase, and love this place! Lots of us Fodorites are regulars there.
