Jet Star baggage allowance
I'm scared to book these jetstar tickets from Siem Reap to Singapore. I will be schlepping some stuff and the baggage allowance says 20kg then 20sgd PER KILO after that....
http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/travel-...rport.aspx#bag I'm choking. Is that for real? |
PS tickets on silk air are $254. Maybe this is the same price by the time I add up all this luggage?
|
i can tell you air asia is very strict....you do not get one ounce over the allotment without paying....
|
If it says so on their website I expect they're not just kidding you. 20 kg is the standard economy class allowance on most of the world's international and domestic routes and excess baggage charges are always high, so I for one wouldn't be surprised.
You could ask about baggage-as-cargo rates, but there's no guarantee that your excess gear will travel on the same flight as you and it would have to be booked in and picked up at the respective cargo terminals. |
when we used them in Australia they definately charged excess baggage!
|
At least Jet Star allows 20 kg rather than the 15 standard for most budget carriers. I used Jetstar recently for a dive trip, and didn't have a problem. I think I was a smidge over the 20, but with SCUBA in big letter on the side of the dive bag, I think they cut me some slack.
Check on the cost of pre-booking over-weight baggage. On Air Asia, the cost of adding a second checked bag when you book the ticket is half the cost of paying for it on check-in. |
Michael it doesn't say anything on their website about prebooking luggage. Maybe I'll call them.
|
Lori-just wear many layers of clothes. Think Michelin Man. If the plane is properly air conditioned, you'll be fine.
|
Wonder is hanging computer supplies from my clothing would be the same thing? I'm getting a vision.....
|
Yup, looks like you're screwed if you have excess baggage on Jet Star. Can't find any advance booking for excess baggage. BTW, you did note that the flight from SR stops in PP on the way to Singapore? Given that, I wonder if it would be just as quick, and cheaper, to use Air Asia through KL.
|
Yes well I'm doing a little stop over in Singapore so AA thru KL doesn't work out. Looks like the only options from SR are JetStar and Silk Air.
Turns out Jet Star does have a way to prepay excess baggage "at a discount"; later in the booking process there is that option. 60sgd for 5 kilos....I think NOT! I'm going to ship the crap to SR in the mail; I've done that before from Singapore. It takes a while but certainly is cheaper. |
When are you going to Singapore? I will be there from 10/9 - 10/12.
