What a great topic! Twenty posts and growing. We world travelers apparently just can't resist this one, hum?

Reading all the replies above, I am reminded of some of my most memorable jet-lag and non-jet-lag flights. Though most of the previous testimonials seem to point to "west" as the best, my experience has been different.

When I cross the International Dateline heading west, something happens for me on a psychological level. Although I wouldn't think my mind would take much exception to what day it is on the calendar, it does.

Going west, it starts to feel as if it has taken two, maybe even three calendar "days" to get to my final destination. On the other hand, heading east, because I may arrive at my destination on the same day and only hours after the original takeoff, my mind plays a game on itself and operates as if flying east hardly takes any time at all.

For that reason, I vote to fly "east"--at least for the BKK-NYC return.

Happy trails,

Bali Lama
