JAPANESE TRAIN TICKETS ONLINE

Does anyone know how to buy a train ticket in Japan online? I have been looking over and over the JR site and could only find how to buy a JRPass, which I really don`t want. All I want is a round trip ticket from Tokyo to Nagoya. I thought I could easily buy it online, as you can do with trains in Europe. Any help?

Never tried to do that. Any special reason to buy ahead? You should have no trouble buying a ticket in Tokyo. If, for some reason, you have difficulty with the ticket office, there will almost certainly be a travel agency handy. If you're worried about the language just print out the hyperdia.com screen.

This is a well traveled line and unless you are traveling during Golden week or something there is no reason to buy online beforehand. That said you can buy online for that route here at ekinet:

more info you will need at:

Wit all due respect to hawaiiantraveler-san, I'm afraid that that the link provided above can be used only for certain routes, and that the Tokyo-Nagoya shinkansen (Tokaido shinkansen) is not one of them.

However, as the equally-distinguished -- but in this case more correct -- thursdays-san sez, there are lots and lots of train between Tokyo and Nagoya (8-12 per hour), and you can easily get a reservation and ticket at either a ticket office or a ticket vending machine in a JR station.

Tokyo to Nagoya.

Literally dozens of trains per day there.
Take your choice of Nozomi, Hikari or Kodoma.
Fastest, fast, slowest.

You can buy a ticket at vending machine or at the station.

ht: my rule of thumb is to have a minimum 2 cocktails before putting the 2 index fingers to the keyboard.

a little too early for cocktails here although I know its noon somewhere, lol
Maybe a couple of hits of the wowie before breakfast will have to suffice.......
