japan weather in september

Hi all,
We are planning a trip to japan from 3 September to 13 Sept this year. We have no firm plans yet, but are considering the Alpine route or being based around Tokyo. We understand however from some friends that September 3 to 13 can still be hot and muggy, and also that September is the height of typhoon season in Japan.
Would appreciate advice whether the intended dates could become "washouts" Thanks to all in advance.

Hard to tell about the typhoon--the season can last till Oct, but it usually takes no more than 2-3days for one to pass through a particular region, so it's not like you'll have constant rainstorm throughout. In Tokyo/Kyoto, the first 2wks can be still quite hot and humid.

Hi W9,

Thanks very much for your input. Hot and humid also describes Singapore where I come from, so the trip would not really be a good holiday!! perhaps i should really rethink about the timing.

The thing is ... it could be hot and muggy. Tokyo by and large compared to many places is not as hot and muggy as some may think. The main thing that really makes it "hot and muggy" is if you are in the trains or a crowded outdoor place. Plus it can cool off very quickly. As for typhoons it is possible but not likely.
