OK. The question wasn't clear to me. Anyhow, I don't know if all the stores, that I go to, sell readers as I don't need readers as I mentioned somewhere upthread. I go in to buy eyeglass frames.

Happy Travels!

Eyeglasses are a great buy in Japan. I bring the Rx from my optician in London and have the glasses made up at Zoff - a nationwide chain. Great frames and the lenses used are the same as in London but at about a quarter of the cost. My varifocals take a week to make up but straightforward presciptions are same-day. I have looked at readers too but those are comparable to UK in price and design so I don't bother.

My plan was to look for eyeglass frames during my arrival, 5 nights in Tokyo, and then have prescription lenses put in and pick them up after I arrive into Tokyo after my 9 nights in Kyoto. That gives plenty of time to have the work done. I'll have 4 nights when I return back to Tokyo. But, since you mentioned that straight forward prescription lenses can be done quickly, then I might have new eyeglasses before going to Tokyo. That's good information to know. Thanks. Annually, I have my prescription lenses put in in Bangkok where it costs me around $25. compared to $100.-$150 (tax included) here at home.

Happy Travels!

Flygirl you are too kind!

I've had to move the Japan trip uo to next spring due to medical issues, so am now thinking of early May just after Golden Week ends. Anyone know exactly when that might be in 2019?

https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2282.html scroll down for 2019 GW dates - evidently it may be lengthened due to the abdication of the Emperor.

Hope your health issues resolve soonest.

Why thank you, eks. I am happy to be able to return the compliment. I hope your travails with the health care system progress faster than mine!
