JAPAN TOUR

I HAVE VOOKED A TOUR OF TOKYO CALLED DYNAMIC TOKYO HAS ANYONE TAKEN THIS TOUR

KimJapan May 9th, 2005 07:45 PM

Not taken it...but from the itinerary and price they give, sounds like a whirlwind with most of the time on a bus or a boat with lunch thrown in. You could do all of that on your own for a fraction of the cost. I think you will find that driving by the Diet building, taking a photo in front of the palace, and driving through Ginza are frustrating...you don't actually get to see any of these places. Going up Tokyo Tower...do it on your own and take your time. See Happo-en...do it on your own, or see another garden...bonsai are everywhere, tea ceremony is easily experienced if you want the tourist version (sip tea, eat a sweet, leave), and the true version of it needs to be studies for. Asakusa Kannon...easy to see on your own too, including the boat, and on your own you can take your time browsing the many small shops in the area. Shopping...Tokyo is shopping..don't need to be taken to a shopping street, or even if you wanted to go to the one they offer, you could go on your own. BBQ lunch...there are yakiniku and teppanyaki restaurants all over the place. Pick one and go. Lunch sets can be had for around 1000 yen, maybe 5000 yen in the nicest places. Dinner is more, but lunch is cheap.

I'd save the money from the tour, get a good guidebook, plan out what I wanted to see, check subway routes, and go. I don't think this tour is special, or worth over $100.00 US per person.

Yikes...just read what I just wrote....bet you can tell what I think of that tour.

Really, I didn't mean to sound quite so negative...

I do think it's a waste of time and money...

Unfortunately I'm lacking tact at the moment I think.

My apologies symphony1.

kimjapan; i thought you gave a very honest and informed evaluation of symphony1's tour package. i don't see a need to apologize.(but that seems to be the japanese way).

if i were symphony1, i would welcome your opinon, as well as others, and use it in determining if the dynamic tokyo tour is best for me. domo. ja.

Thanks kuronosuke...although I'm not Japanese, perhaps all the time I've spent here is starting to show more than I think. I really feel like I was just too blunt. :)

thank for your reply, my problem is that i only have a full day in tokyo and i want to make the most of it and is as much as we can in 10hrs.
thanks for you advice the cost is 12000 yen each.

Since you have only one day, then I really think you should get a private guide. A friend used one in Tokyo that they thought was excellent. I think this would be a far better way to spend your time and money.

Posted too quickly...the cost of the private guide referred to in the link is $150.00/full day...assuming you are 2 people (as you said we) you will save money by having a private guide, and you will definitely have a better experience. The places you go on the Dynamic Tokyo Tour aren't even the top places in my opinion.
