Japan to downgrade COVID to 'common infectious disease' on May 8

"TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan plans to reclassify the novel coronavirus to the same category as common infectious diseases such as seasonal influenza effective May 8, government sources said Thursday."

I don't think they are making the right decisions here, most especially the virus is still mutating. What do you guys think?

I think it is about time. There is/was also a campaign showing when it is otk not to wear masks. But people will continue to walk down an uncrowded sidewalk, wearing their masks, on their way to an izakaya or bar and then remove their masks as they eat/drink around a table with others.

Viruses mutate and can become less dangerous as well as more dangerous. I don't see the point in assuming that a bad one is right arouind the corner.
