Japan Rail Pass for 3 days Tokyo and 2 days Kawaguchi-ko

Appreciate input if it is worth to get Japan rail pass for my itinerary: 3 days in Central Tokyo and 2 days in Kawaguchi-ko (for Shibazakura). Also how much does a Japan rail pass cost? Thank you

You don't need an actual "Japan Rail Pass", but a regional pass might be of value.

For your Fujigoko trip you should consider the "Special Tickets" described on this page: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6905.html

This pass is probably overkill for you: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_06.html but it can be used for airport access so it might add up to be a good value.

You can find more infor for Tokyo here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2017.html#ticket

Your itinerary would not come close to making a full JR Rail Pass pay off, which is ¥29,110 for an adult ordinary pass.
For near Fuji, you might look at these regional passes:

And for 3 days in Tokyo, look for a 3 day subway pass:

Go google it. Various Japan-centric travel agencies offer it online or in their offices. You're not going to pay 29K yen, you'll pay a dollar equivalent that likely will have some discount to it.

That said, you're unlikely to recoup the expense based on your itinerary.

No you do not need a JR Pass for this route. The pass is only good till the JR Otsuki Station where you transfer to the smaller trains of the Fujikyu Line. We paid 1000 yen each one way from there to the Kawaguchiko Station a few years back. You can get a r/t ticket out of Shinjuku Station IIRC. Mount Fuji Pass or something like that....cheap

Aloha!

With the Azuza, it costs 4500 for return trip Shinjuku Otsuki. Then 2600 Y for a day pass Otsuki Kawaguchiko. And 2000 Y for bus & admission to the festival.
Flowers are currently at 50%. But it is still worth the visit, especially if Fuji San dares to expose !

There Is a bus that go direct to Kawaguchi Station if you are staying in the Tokyo Station area. We just took it last week, faster than the train because you don't have to change. Easy and cheap, just a bit tricky to find the bus stop.
