A safe, basic first time itinerary that provides a nice introduction to Japan. With 3 teens/young adult, perhaps a nice ryokan in Hakone as an overnight rather than a Koyasan temple stay. Also Tokyo may have more things that appeal to your children, though 3 or 4 nights in either Kyoto or Tokyo doesn't make a whole lot of difference, depends on everyone's interests.

Please see the response I just entered on your other thread with a specific recommendation for Koyasan.

It takes a while, and several changes of transportation, to get to and from Koyasan. I would not what to leave Koyasan in the morning with the plan of flying out that day from Tokyo -- too many things could go wrong. JMO.

As noted on your other thread, you are giving yourselves very little time in Tokyo and very VERY little time in Kyoto. If that's your preference, go for it! Just making sure you know....

BTW, if you do stay at a temple on Koya-san, note that attending (very early) morning service is not required, but it is sorta' expected, IME -- part of the etiquette of the experience.
