Japan for 1

Hello all,

I will be heading off to Japan, sadly on my own start of January for 6 days.

I was hoping for some help and advice, what to do, where to go, where not to go.

Any feedback would be most welcome.

Regards
- Nick

Hi,

Ask yourself these questions and the folks here could help narrow down things for you to do.

Where are you staying? (staying only in Tokyo? Planning to go all over Japan?)

What are you interested in? (historical? museums? technology? anime? trains? food? shopping? entertainment? outdoor activites? Japanese things?)

Finances? (inexpensive? skys the limit?)

Sounds like you'll be going during New Year's so there might be some events going on during that time too.

And finally, you don't have to feel sad going by yourself. Some people enjoy travelling alone, which has it's advantages, and gives you a different perspective on things which if going with others you won't get. Keep focused, be open to new things and experiences, and you'll have a great time there.

and Japan is a good place for solo travel. My first ever visit was laone. Japanese locals will be very friendly!

Sadly? My advice is to go solo, happily, or don't go at all.

I think sadly was a poor choice of words.

I am very happy to be going, I will be flying into Toyko 8th Jan, was thinking of flying out of Osaka 6 days later.

I just need exciting things to do to fill the days, good places to stay.

So was hoping for good ideas.

If you're flying into Tokyo and out of Osaka, I'd do 2 days in Tokyo and the balance in Kyoto.

Check www.sumo.or.jp and see when the January grand sumo tournament is held. It will be in Tokyo.
