I saw a program on NHK World - you can charter some little train in Tokyo for a group of people....

mrwunrfl - those are all great places -surprised you haven't done them yet....

rhkkmk Feb 3rd, 2013 07:36 PM

cost--that is never a problem with this group

rhkkmk Feb 4th, 2013 07:28 PM

FL1, don't forget the boston GTG

laurieco Feb 4th, 2013 08:30 PM

If everyone is going to be in Japan, I can't pass this up. One of the best GTGs we had was in Tokyo with Mr. and Mrs. Hawaiiantraveler and Mr. and Mrs. Karanosuke. I think Mr. laurieco and I will have to try and make it back for this one!

Kathie Feb 5th, 2013 05:41 AM

That would be wonderful, laurieco!

rhkkmk Feb 5th, 2013 06:17 AM

fantastic

DonTopaz Feb 5th, 2013 06:27 AM

I have been reading a Japanese-language travel board (Lodol's), and it seems that everyone in Japan is visiting New England in November this year, surely because of the wonderful weather.

No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
November!

The Japanese come to New England for fall foliage, and I, a New Englander, am going to Japan in Nov. for their foliage. I guess the grass is always greener...Or the foliage is always more colorful....or some such saying.

hawaiiantraveler Feb 5th, 2013 08:24 AM

laurieco, that would be fantastic if you two could make it back to Japan. I don't think Ganchan will ever be the same or if kuranosuke will be allowed back in after the minor mishap ;)

Aloha!

rhkkmk Feb 5th, 2013 03:29 PM

minor mishap---didn't he fall, or was pushed, through one of the opaque sliding doors???

europe2011 Feb 6th, 2013 11:39 AM

Seems like everyone on here has a great trip planned. We are at the early stages and are thinking about going to Japan from Sept 28 until Oct 20th (or so). Any thoughts on the weather, temperture at that time of year?

kuranosuke Feb 6th, 2013 11:40 AM

Ok, keep this up you guys, and I just may have a repeat performance at ganchan.

Gonpachi might be better, as it could handle a large group.

Kathie Feb 6th, 2013 12:13 PM

Hey, Ken, we'd love to meet up in Japan with you!

rhkkmk Feb 6th, 2013 12:42 PM

us too, always more fun with ken and jackie..

so which was it??

hawaiiantraveler Feb 6th, 2013 04:58 PM

It was the shoji(rice paper) window.....

Yes you are right Ken, Gonpachi would be the perfect place, join us, kudasai! A Fodors Tokyo GTG at Gonpachi October 26 or 27, 2013 sounds like a start of a plan. If we can get the resv. We can start at Gonpachi and walk to Ganchan later for a night cap and break the rest of their windows. Any interest???

I can lead the Shinjuku troop through the subways to Roppongi......just follow the man with the aloha shirt and the orange fodors flag....

Aloha!

rhkkmk Feb 6th, 2013 07:42 PM

and the bag of macadamia nuts..

a GTG whipee...

DonTopaz Feb 7th, 2013 03:54 AM

Are you trying to get me to change my travel dates? Do you really think I can suddenly get C and F award seats on a whim?

Make it the 26th and I'll give it a shot.

(And did you know that Butagumi is just around the corner from Gonpachi? Don't think they could handle a big group, tho.)

Hanuman Feb 7th, 2013 04:05 AM

Well.. Ken is coming to see me again on Valentine's day so you guys can have him after that!

Kathie Feb 7th, 2013 05:41 AM

Tell Ken he just has to stay longer in Tokyo, as we won't be there until Nov 5.

shelleyk Feb 7th, 2013 09:54 AM

Kathie-We are arriving on Nov. 5 also. I'd love to meet up with you and Cheryl for dinner while we are in Tokyo, but as a first time traveler to Japan, and considering our jet lag from the east coast of the US, I think I might be lucky to find anything in Tokyo, let alone a specific restaurant. We are staying in Shinkuj at the Citrines Hotel. What part of Tokyo are you staying in? If a GTG doesn't materialize, I'll be sending good thoughts your way for a wonderful trip. Shelley
