Thanks to everyone. Which temple in koya San would you recommend.
|
I was very pleased with Shojoshin-in:

This is a great suggestion thank you. Do you think 1 or 2 nights in Koya San
|
One night is the usual Koyasan visit....two nights would be stretching it unless you arrive really late the first day imho.
Aloha! |
I agree - 1 night should be enough.
|
When I went to Koyasan I was traveling from Miyajima so only got there around 3 pm...not much time to look around. The next day I did a morning walking tour - mainly in Okuno-in - and then in the afternoon saw the other sights - there is a lot to see there so I spent two nights easily - I did leave quite early the second morning as I was going on to Tokyo.

Aloha Mara,
How was the dinner on the second night compared to the first night? Was it the same? Just interested because in a ryokan situation in our experiences are that the second nights meal is always trying to top the first night. Aloha? |
Aloha, ht - of course you know it's all veggie there and also I am not a big foodie - I can happily eat ¥100 sushi at a kaiten sushi place....
Okay, so I just looked at my trip notes which weren't specific but then I looked at my photos and the two nights' dinners definitely looked different - since this trip was in 2009 I can't do much better than that.... That is interesting about your remark of the second night meal. When I went to Gujo Hachiman in 2010 for two nights I made the reservations with the help of a Japanese friend. She told me that the inn, a fairly inexpensive one, was not used to having guests for more than one night and it was preferable for me to eat out....I ended up having a big late lunch at a restaurant I had read about online so didn't miss having dinner. This year I spent two nights at an inn in Yufuin and the second night dinner was definitely better than the first which I did not care for the main course - I was really nervous that I would be disappointed but the second night was terrific.... |
