JamesA: what about BKK flooding?

Hi JamesA
I'm on my way to Bangkok on Tuesday and am reading about potential flooding in BKK happening right NOW as a result of a tropical storm. What can you tell me? Will I be sorry I'm going now?

Thanks for all the up to date information. It is much appreciated. I will arrive late Wednesday night, so maybe the worst will be over by then.

Bob... I knew the waters would part for me... that's a given!! LOL

orgy... I am sure Ming can fix her chili just for my arrival!! We'll have to plan a meeting at the Brunswick. Let's see.... red shirt, right? Son and friends and I will be there for a part of each day, unless we are in Phuket or Pattaya for a day or two.

I'm South east of Bangkok. Local news is heavy rain coming but I don't think it has arrived in any big way but they have had preparations ready for days, and say it will last until Tuesday don't panic, enjoy.

Weather is really up and down everywhere these days it seems, Phuket is desperate for rain and at last forecast for this week.

Suk II, ahhh....more promotion for Anil !

Phuket rained yesterday and should be raining tomorrow according to a friend I know who lives there. They need the rain very much. Only the tourist would be unhappy with the rain.

its september, it is supposed to rain in bkk and wash away all the trash that has accumulated in 11 months time....a sand bag here or there is expected....just stay away from the river areas when the water is high...

in june it rained hard one evening and there was over 1 foot of water on parts of silom road where the drainage was poor...

divediva Sep 18th, 2005 01:56 PM

alittle rain cleans the air....and it makes everything look cleaner..

fyi....

it rained 19 inches on kauai in 24 hrs this week and on maui...we had 12 inches and we have 2 hurricanes headed our way...
i leave in 3 weeks...rain, storms, or hurricanes cannot stop me from returning to asia....

hawaiiantraveler Sep 18th, 2005 03:26 PM

dive:
just checked the weather server and we have 2 hurricanes and 2 tropical storms headed in our direction....one of the hurricanes is a cat 4 now..all are expected to hopefully be downgraded before they reach our vicinity.

Hope to meet up! That's great!

I don't mind rain in BKK or Phuket either, for that matter. I'm just concerned if the water is going to be knee deep when I'm shopping at Pratunam and the night bazaar!! LOL

carol, hmmmm... chili with orgy. wow! what a treat(i mean the chili). you will find hombre an interesting fellow. orgy, behave yourself now. lol.

ps, don't forget to try the garlic shrimp.

orgy7 Sep 18th, 2005 07:57 PM

Pratunam is not flooded. (I have spent lots of time there this week)..

I remember watching TV from the US about Bangkok being flooded and they made it seem the whole city was inundated.

one thing I do durring rainy season is carry a messenger style bag and throw in a mini umbrella and a pair of cheep flip flops. the whole city may not flood durring a regular storm but many drive ways and some sois do, So the flip flops come in handy..

KARA ya the garlic shrimp were good., didn't we fight for the last one.;

kuranosuke Sep 18th, 2005 09:19 PM

yes we did, but as usual, you won. next time, and we both use chop sticks.

orgy7 Sep 19th, 2005 05:40 AM

hmm.. I guess i'll have a pair of biggish blueish headphones on.. that or the ipod plugs but I gues the big bose will be easier too spot.

simpsonc510 Sep 19th, 2005 08:15 AM

I should be very easy to spot... tall (slenderish???) American lady with long curly hair probably in a pony tail. There aren't any other American women in the Brunswick usually... LOL!

Oh, I'll be the one eating Ming's chili!
