J.W. Marriot in Hong Kong Feedback wanted.
 

Has anyone stayed there recently? Quality? Service? Location? <BR>Thanks!!!

One word: excellent! We were just there last week, and we were really pleased. The service makes you want to extend your stay. The hotel is really fairly new so the rooms are in excellent condition and very comfortable. There are other hotels with better locations, such as along the river; however the JW had several advantages for us. If you don't want to take taxis all the time, it is only a couple of blocks from a Skytrain station. The skytrain is new, in great condition, and easy to use. It is also not far from the expressway so that when you are headed for the airport the travel distance is a little better than a lot of other hotels.<BR><BR>The drawback of its newness is that some taxi drives don't know where it is; however, the hotel is careful to give you a hotel card every time you leave.<BR>

Meg<BR>Skytrain? River locations? Are you sure you were in Hong Kong? Sounds more like Bangkok!

Meg misread your post. She went to the Marriot in Bangkok.<BR>Haven't stayed there but the reviews it has are good. We stayed nearby though. The MTR is brilliant and you can be anywhere in minutes. You are close to the Admiralty stop. The longest you will have to wait for a train is 3 minutes.

Hi Dean.<BR>Great hotel to stay at. Right on Orchard Rd. Shop till you drop.MRT. close by, convenient, clean and safe. Singapore Airlines sponsers a bus that does a circle trip trough the interesting areas of the town, including the Orchid gardens. For S$5.00 you can hop-on or off all day long. I love the place, have a great trip. Btw. service at the Marriott is excellent. Don't know when you are going, but if you where there on new years eve, you will see a hell of a party on Orchard Rd.<BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR>

Hey guys, we are talking about the JW Marriot in HONG KONG. Haven't stayed there but location is good. It's above the Pacific Place mall and close to the Admiralty MTR station. Also, get a room with harbour view!

HK Marriott is very nice and the location is great. It is not on the river (that's 1 of the 2 Bangkok Marriotts) and it is a long way from Orchard Road (about 3 hours 45 minutes 'drive' by 747) but despite these shortcomings you can enjoy the hotel. When you are there wander down to the Chinese Restaurant in the hotel and admire the Chen Jia Ling paintings.

I REALLY wish I could help! I have been to HK though and was there 5 days. Not enough and I really can't wait to go back!Have a great time Dean!

I know you're looking for recent stays, but it appears you're getting more information about Bangkok than Hong Kong.<BR><BR>I stayed at the Hong Kong Marriott nine years ago and loved it -- stayed on my points. They charged us $20 USD per night service charge. This is the only Marriott I've stayed at that charged anything for a free room, but we had no complaints -- just telling you for information in case you are also staying on points.<BR><BR>The way the hotel is built all rooms, that we could tell, were corner rooms with wonderful views. The higher up the better. The room was beautiful, the bathroom luxurious, and they left us fresh fruit in a bowl every day.<BR><BR>Next to the bed was a button to push that opened our drapes (two full windows worth) without getting out of bed to do so.<BR><BR>They had a van/driver that took us into the heart of things in the morning and we took other modes of transportation back in the afternoons and evenings.<BR><BR>The hotel is connected to a very nice shopping center.<BR><BR>We were there for a week and would have enjoyed staying longer.

As previous posters have noted the Marriott is above a very western shipping mall that might as well be in Omaha (no offense intended to you Nebraskans). The problem is that there is very little around it neighborhood-wise - no nice walks, no quaint, crowded streets, no neighborhood restaurants - the mall is kind of an island in the middle of a very blah area. Admittedly, great neighborhoods are just a subway ride away, but personally I enjoy walking around the vicinity of my hotel. The hotel itself is OK, but bland, just like the mall below it.
