Its possible?? Krabi x Khao Lak x Phuket

My friends..

I´m going to Thai next march/2014 and my plan is:

3 days - Bangkok- Flight to Krabi
Krabi - 4 days - Transport to Khao Lak
Khao Lak - 2 days to dive - Transport to Phuket
Phuket - 2 days - Flight to Bali
Bali 8 days

So, is a good plan? or its better to remove phuket and choose Ko Samui?

warmly,
Juliano

If your interest is diving I would choose Phuket over Samui. Which beach or hotels are you planning to stay at in Krabi, Khao Lak and Phuket?

Arandora Jul 24th, 2013 02:18 AM

March is better weather on the Andaman than Gulf of Thailand (Samui) and better diving from Khao Kak (Similan Islands, Richelieu Rock, Koh Tachai, Surin Islands area). Contact Boss of Cheaper than Hotel Taxis in Khao Lak for efficient and cost effective transfers from Krabi to Khao Lak and Khao Lak to Phuket. Contact [email protected]
Personally I would extend Khao Lak in favour of Phuket unless you want to sample the full on night life in Patong.

Tnks Hanuman and Arandora..

So, i´m interested in diving from Khao Lak.

My plan about Phuket is just stay 2 days/1 night and get a flight to Bali with stop in Kuala Lumpur.

About the hotels, i did not take a look in the rooms, but for me and wife a hostel with private room would be acceptable.

For the beach, i will need other advise from you guys, i really didnt read much about that.

Thanks.

Warmly,
Juliano.

Juliano,

Any hotel on the beach or near the beach will be expensive in the general area of Phuket which include Krabi and Khao Lak. However, you can try sawasdee.com and check a hotel with a suitable rate for you and then cross check that property on tripadvisor.com for reviews. In my opinion that will be the best way for you to choose the best place for your budget.

There are still some inexpensive bungalows on or near the beach but you might need at least a rental motorcycle, or better a car, to get to and from there. I am sorry but I don't personally know or can recommend such a place but I wish you luck.

Tnks Hanuman.

Usually i had used tripadvidor, hostelworld and booking.com to choose my Hotels, and now your tip ;-)

I´m planning to rent a scooter in some places, like a did once in Ibiza..

So, now it´s time to read about places to stay and try to finish the itinerary.

tnks again.
Juliano.

Juliano
We stayed at Nai Yang Beach which is 5 minutes from Phuket Airport last February before flying out to Bali and back via Kuala Lumpur. Although we splurged on the Dewa Resort there is budget accommodation in this lovely little resort. Alternatively you could stay in one of the airport hotels but probably no cheaper. Hotels2Thailand.com and Hotelscombined.com are other good search sites.
Take great care if hiring a scooter. They are the cause of most traffic related fatalities in Thailand. In order to drive one (or a car) legally and ensure insurance cove (scooter hire does not include any insurance)you should take out an International Driving Permit before you drive that confirms your eligibility to drive a scooter in your home country. Your great risk if you do otherwise.

Good advice Arandora.

JulianoMelao Jul 25th, 2013 04:02 AM

Many thanks Arandora..

And about your trip to Bali, Could you send some info?

tnks.

Juliano

It is very easy to drive Krabi to khao Lak to Phuket . Roads are good, well marked. If you get a simple map from the rental agency or buy a Thai road map you are all set. We have done it many times.

JulianoMelao Jul 25th, 2013 05:22 AM

Tnks..

i´m going to check rental car companies.

my new plan to march/2014 trip is

3 days - Bangkok- Flight to Krabi
Krabi - 4 days - Transport to Khao Lak
Khao Lak - 4 days to dive - Transport to Phuket
Phuket - 2 days - Flight to Bali
Bali 8-10 days.

tnks again..

Companies well represented in the area around Phuket are Avis and Thai Rent a Car. I just rented a car with full insurance for 900 Baht from Avis so that should give you a rough idea.

Arandora Jul 25th, 2013 07:36 AM

What do you want to know about Bali?

JulianoMelao Jul 25th, 2013 09:45 AM

Tnks Hanuman.

Arandora, i wanna stay 4-5 days in Ubud and 4-5 days in a good beach, Could you advise some beach and places to visit?

How do you travel around Bali?

Many tnks.

Juliano

Kathie Jul 25th, 2013 10:04 AM

Hire a car and driver to get around Bali.

There is much to see and do in Bali. Do you have a guidebook? You will want to choose the places that interest you most.

For beach areas, avoid Nusa Dua (a sterile tourist enclave) and Kuta (the party beach). I like Sanur, many like Semiyak.

Arandora Jul 26th, 2013 01:44 AM

Hi Juliano,
We just stayed 5 days in Ubud. No beach, given we were doing this a s out visa run from 5 months in Khao Lak. We stayed in the Royal Pita Maha Resort and used hotel shuttle in and out of Ubud and hired a taxi driver on a couple of days for tours.

rhkkmk Jul 26th, 2013 07:29 PM

I think I would omit krabi and just do K/L for the combined days

JulianoMelao Jul 27th, 2013 04:04 PM

Hey rhkkmk, Is not a good idea to go Krabi?

I didnt understand your tip about omit and K/L

tnks.

warmly,
Juliano

rhkkmk Jul 28th, 2013 09:23 AM

it is sort of a duplication to visit both and the logistics are much easier to go to only 1.
