I thought your original plan, "My plan is to take 2 bases, Osaka (4 days) and Tokyo (5 days)" was more on-target, though I'd have you stay in Kyoto rather than Osaka and I'd reverse it, Tokyo 4 days and Kyoto 5 days.

"Is a 1 full day enough for Kyoto city?"

Not for my interests! I had 4 full days in Kyoto and did not see everything I wanted to see there, and that does not count the 2 days I had in Nara or Himeji or other places in the area.

I agree with Kathie -- Tokyo for 4 days (counting your time in Nikko) and Kyoto for 5 days would make FAR more sense given your stated interests.

Hiroshima is west of Osaka. Wouldn't you do Hiroshima first while in Osaka, before moving on to Kyoto. And you can also just go from Osaka to Nara and to Kyoto without having to go back to Osaka. Your itinerary is wasting lots of time going back and forth Osaka.

I agree with Kathie and kja! Your itinerary is all travel, with just enough time to eat dinner and go to sleep at each destination. Since you have added two more nights for a total of 11, then perhaps 2 one night stops might make sense. I'd suggest Hakone overnight between 5 nights in Kyoto and and 4 nights in Tokyo and maybe one more overnight that interests you, perhaps Miyajima while visiting Hiroshima, or Tsumago instead. I'd skip Osaka entirely, as well as Nagoya. You could still easily fit in Nara and Karmakura as day trips from Kyoto and Tokyo, in order to get your big Buddah fix! Enjoy!

How I wish there was an edit button for typos!

Oh, good catch russ -- I missed the extra 2 nights!

I agree that Hiroshima / Miyajima would be a great idea, or Hakone as a separate option. Personally, I wouldn't try to do both. JMO.

Tnks a lot.

I will stay 1 full day in Osaka e 1 full in Kyoto to visit this cities, in the day that i leave Kyoto to Nagoya i will depart at night (leave my laggage at hotel) and use this entire day for kyoto or some day tour from there, next day day tour to Shirakawago.

For hakone i will leave morning nagoya to hakone and the end of day go tokyo.

I will be interested in hearing your impressions, particularly since your current plan seems SO far removed from your stated interests. But to each his/her own!

I have to confess, this is not an itinerary I would ever suggest if a friend asked me for advice, but only you can decide for you and your wife.

Personally, with such limited time, I would spend VERY little in Osaka and spend way more in Kyoto. Kyoto has a magical balance of modern Japan and traditional Japan, with plenty that should appeal to both of your interests.

Although it's tempting to try and include/ see everything, I would drop Shirawago completely, and therefore also drop Nagoya. If you want to see the traditional thatched villages, I just learned from another poster here about Miyama, very close to Kyoto and much easier to fit into your itinerary, you could look at doing it in a day trip from Kyoto.

In Tokyo, yes, you could do a round trip to Nikko and still give yourself a couple of days to see Tokyo, that bit sounds about right.

But personally, everything from Day to when you arrive in Tokyo is not an itinerary I like the look of.

Of course, only you can decide what you want to do!
