Is this price to Thailand good?
 

or should I wait? I search on expedia about flight to Thailand next February (will stay around 2 months)right now is around $1590 per person round trip flying from Ft. Myers(Florida) to Atlanta with Delta and to Seoul and BKK with Korean airline.

I flew to Thailand in 2003 in September and it was only $800 per person round trip and pretty much the same routh except it was JAL not Korean's

Do you guys have any suggestions, will be cheaper after Christmas or New year?

September is low season. Afraid Dec,Jan, is high season. Feb,March still dry season so prices are higher.

The $800 flights still do exist--UA had them for Singapore for Oct, Nov., & Dec. However, they are only good for 30 days of travel. If you put in your dates and go over 1 day--31 days--the fares will zoom up to $1400-$1500.

Airfares have gone up significantly since 2003.

Keep looking, I find Expedia prices to typically be high. I have much better luck on individual airlines websites.

Also, note that since you are staying 2 months, that will eliminate some excursion fares.

I checked with opodo.co.uk (worldwide flights and payments) who check with 500 airlines and usually have reasonable prices and got an even higher figure. What it is with Bangkok is that the cheap fares go early (Dec-Feb is high season) leaving ever more expensive fares. You have left it very late.


I checked London to Bangkok and got about $1000, and there are often cheap flights from Florida to London. That may be a better route?

Thanks for all response! This route(Atlanta-Seoul-BKK) is the easiest and shortest for us (without going to crowded NY, L.A, Chicago airports, or the other side of the world)

I am just not sure about the price though I know the price should be significant higher than 3 years ago. Will it be a little cheaper or just around this? anybody has any experiences about this?

I also hear good things about Korean airlines from my friend. I read on this board somewhere, should stick with Asian airlines rather than American's though they are a bit more expensive (but the service is so much better)

Personally, I'd prefer Thai airlines but they only fly out of NY and L.A. (if I fly to NY, I have to at least stay 1 night in NY crowded city and airport.....(more money for a hotel and food)

No one can predict the prices of tickets. I'd say that given your restrictions, particularly that you are not eligible for excursion fares due to staying for two months, this is a reasonable airfare.

Do check the websites of the individual airlines you are considering; they often have better prices.

I paid $1500.(total) on Thai Air for a rd. trip from L.A. to Bangkok. It's usually much cheaper from L.A. I leave in a few weeks. I bought the ticket way back in the spring. All of the lower fare tickets were already sold out back then for a Dec departure. I bought the ticket directly from the Thai Air office in L.A. as it can be a long wait, on hold, on the phone when one calls. I got the next up low fare. Happy Travels!

I just checked Delta and Korean's site and their prices are soooooooo much higher!! on the same freaking day and everything else. It is almost $5000 per person on Delta's and $2700 per person from Seoul to BKK. Ouch!!

Go find a travel agent specialized at Asian travel with access to consolidator fares. Or just an online consolidator like www.gatewaylax.com. See what kind of fare they can get you.

I punched in some dates for next Feb, and they have Cathay Pacific fares for $890+tax. Probably around $1,100 all in.

I apologized. I punched in FLL instead of RSW during my last search. For RSW, www.gatewaylax.com is returning Cathay Pacific fares of $1,040+tax and Singapore fares of $1,060+tax.

I've never used them, as for my travel, I can always find cheaper consolidator fares at local (Houston) Chinatown to Hong Kong. But that site give me an idea of what kind of fares area available.

$1,590 is definitely high for going to BKK.

rkkwan, but are the fares you quote excursion fares or can they stay two months? My experience is that the fares to stay over 1 month go up significantly.

Actually, more reason to use a consolidator for fares over a month, as the airlines themselves charge a lot.

Using random date in Feb going out, and April back, RSW-BKK, gatewaylax.com is showing a Cathay Pacific fare for $915+tax, or Singapore $1,060+tax, or another CX fare for $1,090, etc...

I am not saying one should use them, and fares can change anytime, but cheaper fares are definitely available, even for 2-month stay.

rkkwan, Thanks for clarifying this. I had heard that consolidator fares were especially good for long stays, and your info indicates that this is true. Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to test that out. One of these days...

I flew Cathy Pacific twice in past 5 years. I would say it is 3rd after Sinapore and Thai Airlines.That's a pretty good standard to meet. Never used United to the Orient.
