Is there going to be a Honolulu gtg this year?

We're just mapping out our travel for the year and were wondering whether there is going to be a HNL gtg.

simpsonc510 Mar 22nd, 2010 01:30 PM

Me too, Kathy. My schedule in September is a bit cluttered, and I don't think it is possible for me (us) to get away at the same time as the Hoolaulea (sp) OR the flower parade this year. I hate to miss out on a HNL GTG!

BOS GTG is in early October, so that would not be a good time. I know that November means travel abroad for a number of folks (include myself... Europe).

I see the weekend of September 10-11-12 (and would HAVE TO go home on 13th)as just about the only possibility for me, personally, but don't let that stop others from having a GTG!

We are actually going to be in Kauai on the ground 5 days - Thursday, October 14 through Monday, October 18. Unfortunately, we will not be passing through Honolulu on this trip. However, (and this is a stretch) if a GTG would happen on the weekend on Kauai when we are there, it would be amazing. I am thinking we might miss the GTG in Boston if it is at the same time as usual but we are celebrating in Hawaii since our honeymoon was on Maui, the Big Island and Oahu 20 years ago.

simpsonc510 Mar 22nd, 2010 01:49 PM

Craig, BOS is October 9. Hope you and Jeane can make it! And DO enjoy Kauai! It's really my favorite "outer" island.

Craig Mar 22nd, 2010 02:22 PM

Carol, I hadn't seen a post on the 10/9 date, although it would make sense. If that is the case, I'll probably come up for the luncheon, but I don't think Jeane can give up that Saturday since it is so close to our departure date.

hawaiiantraveler Mar 22nd, 2010 04:33 PM

Since we are already here and are not the ones who have to travel it could be on 9/11 weekend if that is alright with everyone else? We don't have any plans yet for that weekend. Might even be better than the Hoolaulea weekend for touring as the colleges will have started school the weekend before and you might get to see a Waikiki Beach that is almost deserted.

I"ll get on the coconut wireless and beat the drums over here to see what everyone else has to say.

Craig, we may be in BOS this year but Kauai may be doable also. Staying at one of the resorts?

Aloha!

Craig Mar 22nd, 2010 04:43 PM

HT - plan is to stay at Kauai Coast Resort in Kapaa rather than one of the big resorts in Poipu. Don't know how you would feel about that. For us, it appears to be centrally located and we don't care that much about the beaches.

simpsonc510 Mar 22nd, 2010 05:07 PM

HT are you coming to the BOS GTG??? That's be fantastic!

rhkkmk Mar 22nd, 2010 08:03 PM

have to take another rain check....i'm waiting for HI hotel rates at the beach to go below $25 for a suite..

hope peter and linder willl come to bos this year...and others too.. lcuy now has a free place to stay...

kuranosuke Mar 22nd, 2010 10:26 PM

that weekend looks good for us too. we will be out of town the following weekend.

hold your breath on the under $25 beach front suite, bob. that may happen next year.

lcuy Mar 22nd, 2010 10:32 PM

I hope the free place is your place Bob, cuz DD may not still be in Watertown in October!! The company will be renewing contracts in Late april, so I'll know by then whether she'll be in Boston or back in NYC.

I do plan to come whether or not I have to pay for a hotel... Love Boston in October, and the GTG is so much fun!

MelissaHI Mar 22nd, 2010 10:40 PM

Looks like that date is fine for me!! I hope this restaurant is still around for the GTG:
www.sakestreet.com

kuranosuke Mar 23rd, 2010 01:28 AM

mels, funny you mentioned sakestreet. i just drove by there a few hours ago, and saw it was closed. yikes! down the tubes already. then i saw the above site, closed on mondays. whew!!

lcuy Mar 23rd, 2010 01:36 AM

That date looks good to me too.

Have you tried Sake street yet, melissa? The menu looks very good!

simpsonc510 Mar 23rd, 2010 04:13 AM

So is it 9/11 then? I'll put it on the calendar. Kathie, how does it work for you? Bob... you could stay in the park by the big mall. PLenty of space. Less than $25.

Hanuman Mar 23rd, 2010 04:21 AM

Man when will you guys have a GTG in Kona, preferably in August?

kmkrnn Mar 23rd, 2010 06:00 AM

Lucy..Unfortunately your bed will be occupied by our English friends in Oct. If you want the living room floor again that is free. We are planning to bring the Brits to the BOS GTG.

Kathie Mar 23rd, 2010 07:07 AM

I think 9/11 will work fine for us.

Pook, if you will organize a gtg in Kona, we'll come! I've never been to the Big Island and would love to go.

Sake Street looks very interesting. I was sorry there wasn't a menu on the website.

hawaiiantraveler Mar 23rd, 2010 09:19 AM

So 9/11 it is then! We will work on the venue and keep all informed. Sake Street looks great! I think that is the place that Mari808 offered to take L & I to review the other night but we had another commitment.....

Yes Carol we have BOS on our radar but no tickets yet. We have our tent which Bob said we can pitch in his front yard, lol. There goes the neighborhood.

Craig, the Kauai Coast Resort is a great choice! Knowing your travel style I think you will be pleased. Kapaa is a neat little town with lots of shops and eateries. There is a small mall connected to your hotel also. Since you will be on the eastside of the island you should try "The Eastside" one night for a dinner. It is our new fave on Kauai http://www.theeastsidekauai.com/

Hanuman, you must be a marlin fisherman. Have gone out from Honokohau Harbor several times but have never landed the big one. I did fight for 90 minutes to land a 146 lb Ahi Tuna once......best fight I've ever had. Would be glad to GTG in Kona in August.

Aloha!

hawaiiantraveler Mar 23rd, 2010 09:44 AM

Kathie,
To see the menu at Sake Street just press the menu button on the website and the menu appears
