Is there going to be a Honolulu GTG in Sept?

Aloha! I've been looking at airfares and am wondering if there is going to be a GTG. The date I remembered was Sat, Sept. 29, but I think there was an earlier in Sept date (Sept 8?) as well that was an option.

What do all of you in Hawaii think?

rhkkmk May 22nd, 2007 08:01 PM

i think they need to start getting ready if they want their GTG to be 1/2 as good as Pasadena.....

kuranosuke May 22nd, 2007 10:05 PM

i think a honolulu gtg in sep. is a good idea.

several dates in sep were discussed, so, lets start with 9/22, sat. and go from there. what say you?

bob, don't worry about us, you better get crackin too. lol.

simpsonc510 May 23rd, 2007 06:25 AM

Kathie
I've also been wondering about the date for the HNL GTG. I'm glad you started this thread.

Ken, the 22nd works for me. We'll see what the others have to say about it.

Bob, are you and Karen planning to come to HNL?

I think ALL GTG's will have to get busy if any of them plan to compete with Pasadena!! That one was one for the record books.

i'm broke and gpanda will not loan me any money...

unfortunately no to this year as much as we would love to be with ken, and mrs ken (if there is actually one), linda and peter et al.....not to forget 'vietnamese' lcuy also....

rhkkmk May 23rd, 2007 07:10 AM

we are currently planning (for boston) break out sessions....in these sessions you will be able to make your own candy and nuts, design your own guide books, sew up you wonderful tote bags and then stensil them, learn how to do a walking tour, produce your own cd's, learn proper manors for eating at the ritz, learn proper spelling and finally learn cake frosting with live flowers....

rhkkmk May 23rd, 2007 07:11 AM

forgot proofreading session

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 07:24 AM

Ken, I think the 22nd works for me, but I thought there was a problem with that date for you and the HTs due to a football game?

kuranosuke May 23rd, 2007 08:32 AM

kathie, thank you for remembering that there is a football game that nite, however, ht and i agreed that getting together with the great fodors gang is much more important than a silly football game.

we still have alot more games left in
the season.

ok, wheres guen??

kuranosuke May 23rd, 2007 08:41 AM

ooops, forgot mrwunrfl too. got some mentaiko waiting for you.:-)

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 09:15 AM

Wow - Fodors GTG is more important than football. I feel like I've come up in the world!

I just checked and am able to get tickets for the 22nd if it works for others.

Guenmai May 23rd, 2007 09:47 AM

I'm here. I've been busy. Kuranosuke, I e-mailed you this past weekend about the GTG. Did you get the e-mail. Anyhow, whatever you guys decide is fine with me as long as it's not the 8th. I hope I can make it. I'm not sure yet. Lots going on here. Happy Travels!

kuranosuke May 23rd, 2007 10:36 AM

hi guen, yes, i got your email yesterday. well, it looks like 9/22 is a good date.

i will start a new thread about the gtg on 9/22. hope all the locals will be there too.

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 11:48 AM

Ken, let me know when this is firm enough to buy tickets!

hawaiiantraveler May 23rd, 2007 12:06 PM

We are in on the 22nd!

Should be exciting in Waikiki at that time as on the 21st is the big Hoolaulea in Waikiki for the Aloha Festival. If you have never seen one its a spectacle worth being a part of. You could say its the Hawaiians version of a Mardi Gras.

Aloha!

samuell May 23rd, 2007 12:10 PM

is this GTG open to anyone, is there any age restriction?
you folks seem like an interesting bunch, your party (GTG) must be a blast!

kuranosuke May 23rd, 2007 12:25 PM

its a go for 9/22.

i'm having my authentic grass skirt(made in china) dry cleaned as soon as i can find it.

the hoolaulea should be fun. we plan to be there, maybe even stay in waikiki.

sam, all are welcomed. join us. :-)

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 12:57 PM

I was thinking about not staying in Waikiki this time, but it sounds like we HAVE to. I'd better get looking for hotels!

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 04:32 PM

Ok, I have hotel reservations in Waikiki. Now to the air tickets!

simpsonc510 May 23rd, 2007 04:56 PM

I'll get to work on mine too, if the 22nd is now the "established" date for the GTG.
Carol

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 06:47 PM

Ok, I'm planning on buying my tickets in the next hour or so. Great prices!

Guenmai May 23rd, 2007 07:07 PM

Where are you getting these great prices, Kathie? I'm coming up with about $865. for a weekend air/car/hotel. That's on Unitedvacations.com and Expedia. Happy Travels!

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 07:14 PM

We paid under $400 each for the tickets by flying in on Friday and out on Monday. We're doing hotel separately, and won't have a car since we're staying in Waikiki. From Seattle, it's hard to get a RT to HNL for under $600 typically.

How many nights are you staying, Guen?

PS We need to talk more about your Seattle plans! We're looking forward to some time with you here.

Kathie May 23rd, 2007 07:23 PM

Oops - forgot to mention we booked on the united.com website

kuranosuke May 23rd, 2007 07:40 PM

kathie, i saw the good fares on ua from sea to hnl. fares from lax to hnl were a bit higher, strange.

if you need a ride from the airport, let me know and i will contact the service that i use to and from the airport. its a very reliable service and reasonable.

rhkkmk May 23rd, 2007 08:18 PM

ox cart with ancient driver....he likes wine however...

Guenmai May 24th, 2007 06:46 AM

Thanks for the info, Kathie. I've been almost exclusively on united.com and unitedvacations.com and the airfares out of L.A. and Burbank have been very high...$800-$1200. Now there were some packages car/hotel/air for about $860. but the flight times were horrible on the return...leaving at around 9:30PM and arriving the next morning. Many of the decent times are already sold out.
I had this same problem when I took my dad so the price of the package went up in order to take a decent-time flight. So, I'll keep trying. And yes, we'll discuss the Seattle trip soon. I'll start on it this weekend. You had mentioned a salmon dinner or something a few months ago. That sounds great to me. I don't want too much movement as I'm tired. Just basically shop and eat. Smiles. And maybe a museum. You said something about an Asian Museum. Got to go. Hapopy Travels!

Guenmai May 24th, 2007 06:48 AM

Correction..."Happy" not "Hapopy". The finger slipped...Smiles. Happy Travels!

Kathie May 24th, 2007 05:51 PM

Ken, thanks for the offer about airport transportation. I'll ask Bob to send me your email address.

hawaiiantraveler May 25th, 2007 05:33 PM

Kathie,

If you ever come to Hawaii and don't want to stay in Waikiki, here is one place I recommend. I know, it's a Marriott, but its got a whole different feel to it thats not like Waikiki, lol.

http://www.ihilani.com/

Aloha!

rhkkmk May 25th, 2007 05:39 PM

WHAT'S WRONG WITH MARRIOTT????

Kathie May 25th, 2007 06:05 PM

HT, What a coincidence! Cheryl just got a call from Marriott (don't tell Bob) about the villas next door to this JW Marriott. We might have stayed there this time except for the hoolaulea!
