Is Macau worth a visit?
 

Hi, i am in thailand at the moment and saw that there are cheap flights to macau. I do love a gamble, especially Poker. Is it worth a visit. i dont want to hang out at just casinos. How expensive is it? Also, if some reason, do you know if they have texas hold em there.

went to wynns, did not see texas hold em. in fact, i don't think i saw any poker games. i'd skip macau if you want to go just for gambling.

Good thinking to not just hang out at casinos. You could also go outside, and bet on some horse racing! at the MJC.

At 1000 miles, it is just too far and would take too much time. With the airport transfers on both ends, waiting for the flights, and the flying and a day is pretty much shot right there.

Well, yes, of course it's worth visiting - if it's on the way to somewhere else, or as a trip from HK, and you can stay a few days and avoid the casinos, and enjoy finding your own 'entertainment'.

But if you were thinking on going all the way from BKK just to gamble, then you and I live in different worlds.

It doesn't have to be expensive - depends what sort of places you like to stay.

I have never seen poker tables in Macau either.

There are lots of stuff to do there. The older town center was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site last year. It includes many churches, Chinese mansions, temples, forts, a lighthouse, etc. Plus it has a nice museum inside the old fort, a Suzhou-style Chinese garden, more temples.

You'll find decent Portuguese and Chinese food; and they have a go-kart track, a beach, observation tower (often shrouded in smog); plus adult entertainment that's not suitable to describe here.

I say go for it. And like fuzzylogic says, Hong Kong is just an hour away by frequent ferry.

Macau is an interesting place. We did a day trip there from Hong Kong last time we went to HK, and enjoyed it a lot. I could see that a couple of days there would be fun. The historic core of teh city is lovely, and we had a fabulous meal at Fernando's. I can't comment on the gambling except to say that several of the big companies in the US have built/are building huge casinos there.
