Interracial Couple in Phuket

I have some young friends who want to visit Phuket for their honeymoon. She is Latina from Texas and he is of African descent from Barbados. Will they be treated unkindly because of they are a mixed race couple? Will they be safe?

They should be fine.

May I know the reason for your / your friends concerns? Did you hear that interracial couples were being harassed in Phuket?

I've never been to Phuket or Thailand for that matter so I can't say from experience, but I thought Phuket had a lot of international tourists and they should at least have been exposed to all different kinds of people?

No problem at all..just read up on the local scams for any tourists.

When are they going? Right now might be more concerned about the impact of the mourning period for the king.

Gotta wear black T-shirt just now or might be reported to be 'dissing' the late King which means arsehole police can arrest, charge Lese Majeste crime and slap into the local jail. There really is no sense of Law in Thailand like we know in the western world.

But along the beaches of Phuket, all might be cozy as they realize the value of tourists, color not important.

Wish i had more dark skin genes. I'm much too white to really enjoy the tropics.

"I'm much too white to really enjoy the tropics."

I find that an odd rationalization, from the point of view of someone "too white" (red-hair genes). There's no place I'd rather be than the tropics, though beaches don't appeal. But because I find beach time boring, not because I'm "too white". I suspect there are other reasons why you dislike topical climates, say heat. But for skin, it's why god created sleeves and hats, for dark-skinned people, too.

Jobin, is that true about being required to wear black during the official mourning period? Sorry, can't tell if you're serious or joking about that.

My best Thai friend just e-mailed me yesterday. She lives in the heart of Bangkok and mentioned that Thais are wearing black and white, but that I'd be fine without wearing such when I return in a couple of months.

Happy Travels!
