Information on PNG, please

Has anyone been to PNG recently? I'm wondering, weather-wise, what the best time of year to tour would be.
Also, have the festivals become overly commercial with so many tour companies now scheduling visits?
Appreciate any other information!

Thanks,

Pete

I went to PNG three years ago 2005 during the Highland Sing Sing festival in August.
There are not many people who visit PNG so don't worry about the crowds.
It was one of the most fascinating trips I went on. I went will TravelWorld organized by Greg Sthakis in Santa Barbara California.

Travelmemories--

Can you tell me a bit more about your trip?
Would the trip have been good without the
Highland Sing SIng? Any problems along the way?
Thanks!

I enjoyed the Highland Sing Sing. If you can not go during this time I would still highly recommend this country to visit.
I went to PNG because of the festival. I realized when I got there how many other wonderful experiences I had visiting the villages. I am sure you will have a great time.
We were lucky, no problems with transportation in PNG. There was never a very long wait for any transport. On our flight to Australia we were delayed. Only once in PNG we had to wait just a little while for our transportation from the airport field to our hotel. I have heard that there sometimes can be delays.

Where are you thinking of visiting in Papua New Guinea? Without a tour it is very difficult getting around. There are many small airplane connections and bus trips that need to be coordinated.

My husband was not interested in the primitive artwork of PNG. As we toured the area he acquired a taste for this type of artwork and we had more of an understood of its meaning.
It is easy to ship back larger item to your home. Expect the shipment to reach you several months later. The art items are not expensive but the shipping costs are.
