information about chiang mai
I will be in Thailand November 16-21. I am trying to decide where to go and would like to
hear from people who have been there. I do not want to go to a beach.'
My husband and i are in our 60years old and are quite active but we will be coming from a bike trip so might prefer some downtime and some activity

I liked Chang Mai very much. I spent 3 days there. I went to an amazing hill top temple and to the zoo to see the pandas on the way back from the temple, The next day I went to an elephant camp where I rode an elephasnt into the jungle for about an hour and watched a a very entertaining show of the trained elephants painting and playing soccer. Next day I walked in the old city, visited some wats in town and went to the night market. We ate great great food, saw interesting sights and had a really good time. . What more could you ask for?

I agree with shelleyk about CM. There's sssoooo much to do. In addition to shelleyk's, you may also want to visit the hill tribes, go rafting (bamboo or other wise), hiking, and, of course, without question, have a massage every day!! They are very inexpensive so have lots! Simon Cabaret has burlesque shows. The night market has nightly entertainment on stage. And the night market offer foot massages. Also, in CM, take long-tail boat rides. CM is a great walking city, but the tuk-tuks are great fun. The food is wonderful -from the stands on the streets to elegant restaurants. CM is our favorite city in Thailand. Have a great trip!

if you don't want to go to a sea side holiday you really are left with visits to northern thailand....CM is the primary location there.... you can do all of the things mentioned above plus tons of shopping if you like, but for me the place leaves me flat....i have tried 3 times to like it and i just can't come around to that..... further north in the golden traingle area is more interesting, imo, and much more worthwhile....
i also love bangkok for what it offers the tourist...

I'd suggest you consider the Golden Triangle area. The Anantara at the Golden Triangle is a lovely resort. They have a small division of the Thai Elephant Conservation Camp on the grounds. You can take a day of manhout training with the elephants or just visit them and interact a bit. When we were there, there was a group that came in after a long bike trip. They appreciated some downtime in a beautiful environment before moving on to new adventures.
