Info on flight from Kanazawa (Komatsu airport) to Narita
Recently, there have been threads on getting to Takayama and/or Kanazawa, and getting to Tokyo from there. I can't find the thread I wanted to post this on, but here is some good info I got from a kind person at the www.japan-guide.com forum on the one flight that is being initiated per day starting on Nov. 1, 2004 from Komatsu airport (40 min. from Kanazawa) to Narita airport. Thanks very much to KimJapan for letting me know about the potential for this flight. Here is the info (w/sites):
ANA, in cooperation w/Fairinc, will fly once a day from Kanazawa to Narita stating 11/1/04. NArita departure to Komatsu airport will be at 17:25, arr. Komatsu 18:40. Komatsu departure at 8:10 and arrive Narita 9:25. See http://www.anaskyweb.com/us/e/about_...04/040510.html
Also, for info on bus and train service to Komatsu airport from Kanazawa and other surrounding cities, see:
http://www.pref.ishikawa.jp/k_air/access_e.html
Both of these sites are in English. I say this because some posts on that forum give links to sites in Japanese.

One more thing: I'm sure the seasoned Japan travelers know about this, but I just found out so just in case someone hits on this and doesn't know: ANA has a deal where you can fly into Japan on any airline (not just ANA) and you are eligible to buy btwn 2 to 5 domestic Japan flights operated by ANA for 12,600 yen per flight. Tickets have to be booked outside of Japan; some blackout periods during peak seasons. JAL has the exact same deal, but if you fly into Japan on JAL you can get the domestic flight for even less (10,500 yen), or use the 12,600 is flying in on another airline.

OK, I know I am talking to myself here, but I haven't seen this info yet either, so here: The Yokoso (Visit Japan" program that has been talked about on here is associated w/a Yokoso Japan airpass which allows travelers who fly into Japan on JAL to fly within Japan for 10,000 (USD 91) per sector (minimum 2 sectors, max 5 sectors). These fares are supposedly 80% off the unrestricted fares and area vailable for use btwn 42 cities served by JAL, JAL express and Japan TransOcean Air. Must reside outside Japan and purchase the Airpass prior to traveling to Japan in conjunction w/their JAL ticket.

mrwunrfl, have you used that other forum for Japan? It is good, esp. for transportation. And Uji is very informed.
BTW, since we are apparently talking among oursleves so far here, I want to suggest that if you get a chance and know someone who has the CD, listen to the lyrics from the song "Wonderful: that Joel Gray from Wicked ("They call me wonderful, I'm Mr. Wonderful and I'll be wonderful if you insist..." It's a theme song for your fodors name. Unfortunately, Joel Gray is leaving Wicked, and will not be playing Mr. Wonderful (the Wonderful Wizard of Oz) when I take my son to see it in August. But it's a great Braodway song. Of course that has nothing to do w/Japan.
