I have travelled to Nepal without making any bookings at any guesthouses, and found that when I landed in Kathmandu airport, I just went to the tourist desk & asked them for a recommendation to a good, clean, safe guesthouse. They will even book the room for you. I stayed at Tibet guesthouse.

hi. i was randomly looking up Nepal. Check out www.hec.org/info/links.htm <BR>they have lots of stuff...volunteering, trekking. There's even some homestay program where you stay in someone's house for 7 bucks a night and that includes meals. click on the link under the main picture and then go to homestay. good luck

I stayed at Hotel Norling. It's in Thamel. Good room, cheap, clean and quiet (asks for a quiet side of the building). I went there in August and paid US$18 a night for a double room. email: [email protected], tel 240734, 224086

For Kathmandu novitiates there are two requirements: 1. Stay at the Kathmandu Guesthouse, 2. Eat at Mike's Breakfast.
