India's Trains

There has been a lot about train travel in India here lately. Today's NYT has a short video about India's commuter trains, bringing people in and out of Delhi for work. "Riding the Indian Railways"

I can't link directly to the video, but it's in the middle of the page on today's web page.

Thanks Kathie. Interesting video. At 25 cents for a 2 hour ride, I'd guess the commuters don't complain as much as they might.

Just to comfort anyone here that may be planning Indian rail travel, the trains they are showing are the commuter trains. The long distance trains are a lot less crowded. Think urban subway vs Amtrak, but with a lot more, umm, character!

Yes, I've ridden a lot of Indian trains, but no commuters!

Thanks for posting this Kathie. In contrast, about a month ago the NYT ran a photo slide show on the Delhi metro - how clean and efficient it is. You can probably find it by googling "NY Times Delhi metro."

Thanks for jogging my memory, Nutella. Here's the link to that article and slideshow - quite a contrast to the commuter train video!
