Indian hotel voltage?
 

We are going to India this fall. A simple question: will most 4* and 5* hotels have 120 voltage (for razors, hair dryers, battery chargers), or do we need a converter?

Most of the hotels we stayed in had a converted outlet. We also found that most of our electronics (camera, phone and Ipod chargers) were dual voltage, so all we needed was a plug converter; not a voltage converter.

The only way to be sure is to ask the hotels directly.

Razors often have built in variable voltage...it will say right on it what voltage it works with. My husband's says 100 - 240 V. You would only need an adaptor for the outlet.

Battery chargers are also often variable voltage, and also say right on them.

Hair dryer...I wouldn't bother bringing one. The hotel should have hair dryers, either in the room or on request from housekeeping. Worst case, you buy one locally.

Wow! Talk about prompt replies! Actually, the only appliance I have that is 120-V only is my battery charger. Razor, as you say, is dual. But a dual battery charger is about 30 bucks more than the one I have, and I have used my old 120-V version in several foreign countries, i.e. Germany, France, Italy, NZ, UK. But I'm not so sure about India.

Just returned. A little plastic outlet converter worked everywhere for computer, camera etc. Extremely easy.

They sell a converter in Radio Shack. It costs something like $7.99. As it turned out, we needed it once or twice. Better safe than sorry!!
