India Visa Help!!
Dear travelers,
I am leaving in less than a month for nepal and I want to travel in india after my nepal trip in July. This means I need to get the 5 year visa, not the 6 month.
-Do they ever deny tourists a 5 year visa? I don't want to spend the $200 consular fee and get rejected
-How long does it take to get your visa? Do I have time to apply if I only have a month before I leave?
-Can you pay with a credit card?

Are you in the US? If so, then your visa must be obtained through Travisa. Go to the travisa website and read all of the details. (google India visa for US citizens and the website will come up) And if you are thinking about the 5 year visa, why not get the 10 year visa for the same price? The consular fee for both is $153, total fee including service fee is $166.
We paid with a credit card an it took maybe 10 days to get our visas. No guarantees how long it will take for you, but if you want to go, apply NOW.

Why not see if you can get your Indian visa in Kathmandu? The website for the Indian Embassy there http://www.indianembassy.org.np/visa-and-passport.php has forms to download and other information and I'm betting it's possible and might be more convenient for you.
On long trips my practice is to get visas as I go along for the very reason you mention, that some would expire before I get there in the course of an extended trip.

On the website given above if you click on the heading "visa fees" it gives fees specifically for "US Nationals" (and others). This would lead one to believe that you will be able to obtain your visa once you are in Kathmandu at a time more convenient for your travel schedule.
If you click on "contact us" and then "consular wing" under the heading "Different Wings of Embassy" there are email addresses including visa personnel. You should probably confirm with them that it's possible.
