India trip report-brief recommendations

Just returned from a 2.5 week trip to North India and really appreciate all the good tips I received from the Fodor's community-they were very helpful in planning for our trip. I offer the following brief report in the hopes it might be helpful to someone else who is as worried as I was about whether things would go smoothly in India! We used Castle & King, and I recommend them highly. We were met without problem at the airport/train station in each new city by the C & K rep. On Day 1 of our tour, the rep gave us a cell phone with the reps, guides, and drivers for our tour programmed in the Contacts. Although I never had to use the phone, I found it greatly reassuring to have it. We were met on time by our guide for each day's tours. When we had to catch a train, the rep took us to the exact spot on the platform to wait for our train, and made sure we got on OK. Although driving in India was harrowing (I coped by only looking out the side window and not straight ahead), all of our drivers were very experienced and excellent. I would especially recommend Krishna, who is based in Delhi. I would also like to especially recommend our guide in Khajuraho, Shyam Lal Rajak. Our day with him was one of the highlights of our trip. His email address is [email protected].
