India Travelogue
 

For those of you who enjoy reading travelogues then please feel free to read mine about a recent trip to India.

We visited Delhi, Sarnath, Varanasi, Khajuraho, Orchha, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Jaipur, Pushkar, Ranakpur and Udaipur.

There are also hundreds of photographs to alieviate the boredom!

Well Colin, I've only made it Pushkar so far with you but I thibk it's time to send you a big congratulations! What a great report, full of jokes and wonder. Your enthusiasm shines through every line and those pictures are really good. I've been to India many times for months each time - you capture that first time feeling. Yup, you were done over a few times - well, that's all part of it, yup - you were mean with those tips. lol lol lol. Just like me. The Scots and the Australians share many traits, eh? Yup, your trip collapsed in a heap in Varanasi - if it ain't a plane or a fog or a dead cow inpaled in a truck, India will get you sometime. Join the travelers club!

This document should be required reading for anybody contemplating a trip like this. Bravo. Great stuff Colin.

I was so engrossed in your travel report last night that I got to bed much later than usual. My husband and I spent a month in Bhutan and India in Feb. Our first day was in Kolkata. Talk about sensory overload. Our itinerary followed yours pretty closely. Your description of the first sight of the Taj Mahal matched ours perfectly. I had tears running down my cheeks. Thanks for bringing back so many pleasant memories.

Colin - I'm really surprised that this travelogue has been missed by so many. It was really well written and interesting to read. I felt like I was there with you. I hope others take the time to read this as well.

Amazing reporting - couldn't quit reading. My 21 year old daughter and I are going to India in February for 18 days. Some of what you did and then heading south for 5 days. You made our trip come alive and I really can't wait to go. Am going to print it out for her to read before we go. By the way, your pictures are incredible. What kind of camera did you use??
Any other tips to pass along??
Also, loved your descriptions of the food can't wait!

We stayed at ITC Mughal in Agra too and loved it, including the big buffet breakfast in the sunny dining room. We sat at a window table looking out on the garden, feeling very smug that we were inside while temps outside were 110F!

My camera is an Olympus SP-560. It's nothing too fancy but has an incredible zoom. India is such a beautiful and charismatic country that everywhere you look is worthy of a photograph.

The only tip I'd give about is India is to Keep Calm and Carry On! Roll with it. You will be rewarded with an incredible experience! Have a great time Michelle!

What a great trip report and fabulous photos! So glad someone brought this up again. Makes me want to go back to India again. So many things we missed in our first trip. Your descriptions & photos of Deogar & Ranakhpur put them on our "must see for sure" list. Thanks so much for posting.

I have to admit that the whole experience of staying at the Deogarh Mahal and walking through the town was very special.
Then the Jain temple at Ranakpur was simply breathtaking. We hadn't heard of it before our visit but it was well worth the extra miles to go and see it.
