You may find some useful information on the Thorn Tree - Indian subcontinent branch of Lonely Planet's website.

I am also planning to go to India alone but will be going next Nov/Dec...with plans to start in Nepal and head west towards Delhi mainly touring in Uttar Pradesh (I think...whatever state Varanasi is in), then on to Delhi. I think the next trip will be Goa south to Trivandrum...hoipefully. If you're open to going later, maybe we should converse. Otherwise, plase let me know if/how you find a travel partner. I'll need it myself, but have not started yet. Good luck!

Hello,

Wonderful idea to go to India! It's probably not the "easiest" country to visit but it's everything but boring. I can understand your concerns 1) It's definately nice when you travel with somebody, especially when you might get ill or in some other situation in which you like to share your experiences. Of course I don't know the person you are, but you can inmagine that travelling on your has its advantages as well. I don't know wether you can use all this information, but last year I travelled in India for 8 months with a friend , that was wonderful but this year I'll return to go on my own. Maybe ypou can arrange a companion for part of your trip. 2) Concerning this question, you can ask me whatever question you have, I can probably give you some advices, but it depends on the purpose of your trip, or do you just want to see a bit of everything. Or do you want advice about things to take (and NOT to take 'cause about everything can be bought in India). Good luck!

I discovered a gem in Goa India. I stayed at a new...well 300 year old beautifully restored colonial manor called Siolim House. I highly recommend it !!! They have a site http://www.siolimhouse.com

If you enjoy travel and look for places like this - I've rarely come across one at the price - anywhere in the world.

enjoy your travel.
