I was refering to Bangladesh. Yes, she'll ask someone when she gets there. My thought was to give her ten or fifteen $10 bills, that she could deliver as needed for me. But I think that could be too problematic. I guess I'll just end up making a donation to, or maybe through, the study.

Why not give her some money and ask her to use it as she sees fit. Depending on where she is she may be better off giving them their local currency or buying something for them. Or she could donate the money to a local charity which would be more direct than going through an international one. That's something I often do when I travel. You don't get a tax deduction but my feeling is the money is put to better and more immediate use.

Glad I could help. I was in Thailand during the tsunami (not at the beaches) and my friend whom I often travel with emailed me to take $500 out of my ATM and contribute it directly in Thailand for her and she'd pay me back. I did the same thing for me and felt really good knowing that the money was there and put to use within 24 hours of the disaster happening.
