India Singapore

I'm an architect travelling to India for 18 days in September on business. I will be flying in thru Singapore and wanted to know if anyone found it interesting enough to convince me to stay there for an additional day as a stopover.
Also, I will be visiting Hyderabad, India and wanted to know if anyone has been there and can recommend a good hotel.

I vacation there annually...will be leaving for there in a couple of days... and have spent up to a week and a half there. Whether or not it's worth it to you depends on what it is you like. There's some of the best food in the region there and I love it architectually...as in the different mosques, temples, old restored Chinese shop houses, brightly painted Singaporean style buildings, etc. If you click on my name, there are many questions I have answered regarding Singapore...some just this week. You can read my comments and kind of get a feel. Happy Travels!

I always enjoy a few days in Singapore. There are lots of things to do and of course, there is great food.

I like Singapore a lot (I used to live there), but I think you need more than one day or you will be rushing around, and with jet lag just hopping on a plane the next day for a trip to India would be tiring more than anything IMO. As an architect you may find Singapore's modern architecture and redone shop houses interesting or horrible, I don't know. But if you really don't have time to give it 2 days or more I think I would skip it. I agree with Guenmai's assessment if you can stay.

For Hyderabad, I would recco the following three business hotels, in no particular order other than to say take whichever one you can get into as they are almost always fully booked, so fax or e-mail one of them right away. Hyderabad is the second Silicon City after Bangalore and these hotels are always packed. All are nice, the Marriott is just completing some renovations to restaurants and public areas so might be a third choice only because of that. The Sheraton has an excellent restaurant, Bukhara.

Hyderabad is very interesting, it is one of the few Muslim majority cities you will probably go to; great food as well.

Thanks for the feedback. I think that I will skip a Singapore stay over and use the the hotel savings for Hyderabad since the prices there were a suprise.

Yes, hotel prices all over India are quite a surprise these days, every investment banker is running over...you could also try the Lonely Planet website and/or guide, their "top end" hotels are generally very good value for money. The three hotels I have listed are no doubt the three most expensive in town, but the best and are true business hotels, which I assumed are what you wanted (business centres, conference rooms, two line phones in the rooms, 24 hour room service, etc).

I am doing something similar in November. I have to Fly to Singapore from Europe, sleep work aprt of a day and fly out late the next. I need a hotel reccommendation in the orchard road area ? I need to book something soon.

I go to India for 2 weeks business afterwards. i will be in Hyderabad this trip and the the group that usually goes over for the fairs stay in the Taj hotels most of the trip. they really like the Taj krishna last time and 2 people has to share the presidential suite as they were short rooms. They loved it and had their own small pool.

In the Orchard Road area, I like The Grand Hyatt, near the corner of Orchard Road and Scotts Road. It's very convenient to the MRT.
