India Question...
Where along this route is going to be the longest drive? Is there anyplace of interest that I can overnight to make the transfer to the next destination easier?
I intend to go with the following itenerary in this sequence: Agra (2 nights at Amar Vilas). Although it will be draining, I will likely transfer immediately from Delhi to Agra in the very early morning (3AM) upon arrival. Jaipur (3 nights at Raj Vilas). Ranthambhore. (3 nights at Vanya Vilas). Delhi. (3 nights at the Imperial Hotel). I don't really have more than one night to add, and I am trying to keep it a completely driveable land package. While I would like to see Udaipur, it seems like to much of a hassle to fly there for only a couple nights with not much else around there of major interest. Instead, I will start my holiday with 3 nights in Hong Kong. I noticed in a previous post started by Ladia that someone suggested a place for birdwatching, but if you've ever been stuck with "birders" on safari in Africa, the last thing you want to do after that is ever see another bird, so any alternate suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope to have this booked within the next week or two before the Peninsula Hong Kong does away with some very favorable rates they have going right now. Thanks. |
(By starting with three nights in Hong Kong, the transfer to Agra after touchdown in New Delhi will not be THAT bad. Probably better to do the transfer with no traffic at 3AM rather than during the daytime hours anyway).

Did you see the thread where Cicerone gives some detailed info on the driving?
I can understand why dropping Udaipur may fit your schedule better. In Hong Kong, tell Scared to go first thing to the clothing street to get her dress/coat started. Friends just returned who did this and were thrilled. The guy got a tux and overcoat and six shirts for under $700, she got an Audrey Hepburn cocktail dress and coat with lining for around $300. |
u have not mentioned dates. have u finalized.

Consider doing the Ranthambore-Delhi transfer by train. Is very convenient overnight train and u will get into Delhi refreshed for your 3 days stay there. Any good travel agent should be able to make the bookings for u - or even Vanya Vilas may do it.
