India or China

Where should we go in early November on a tour for two weeks northern India /Nepal or China ( Beijing, Xian, Shianghi).

Price is the same, both are with a tour company.

I’ve lived and traveled in Asia for 20 years and think you would be hard pressed to find two countries which are as different as China and India. (Possibly India and Japan would qualify as well.) History, culture, art, religion (other than Buddhism) food, architecture, there are just vast differences. So it’s almost impossible to answer without knowing your interests. I would agree that you do not need a tour for either. I don’t think you would be “disappointed” in a trip to either.

I would also say that as a very general matter, unless you like cool to cold weather, you will find the main tourist cities of China (Beijing, Xian, Shanghai) to be much cooler (and even toward cold) than India, which is mostly in excellent, dry, temperate, weather in November (other than parts of the east coast around Chennai which will have rain then). As both are huge countries it is hard of course to generalize, but my guess is that your Indian tour is north India like Rajasthan, Agra and Delhi, whre you will find nice weather in early November. See weatherbase.com and other weather websites for information. Of course Beijing in November will be less crowded and can be quite pretty as long as you are dressed for it. So, other than weather, without knowing your interests, it’s really too hard to give any advice.

You are talking chalk and cheese, I have done two week tours of both, India last year and China the year before, it will be winter so you could experience very cold weather in China at that time.
Both are amazing destinations, make sure you choose a company that has small tour groups.
Due to the time of year, I would be inclined to direct you towards India, do Delhi, Agra and Rajhastan. There is also a new River Cruise between Calcutta and Benares on the Ganges and Hugli rivers, now that is a trip I am keen to do, it is with a company called Pandaw.
Hope that helps
