India and money...what's best?
Am heading to India in 2 weeks. What's the best way to take money?
US dollars in hard currency? Travellers' Cheques in US currecncy? Or a combination of the above? Or can I rely on easily finding ATMs in the Golden Triangle area (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur)? Or just take, say, limited cash for minor costs (meals, trinkets etc) and rely on using Visa cards and ATMs? Two thirds of my time will be in Assam well off the beaten track, so maybe limited cash and then rely on cards and ATMs when we reach Delhi etc etc. |
Take some U.S. dollars, and an ATM card (and a credit card)..All 4 times i went to India i took Traveller's cheques and brought them all back.
There are lot's of ATMS in Delhi, Agra an Jaipur.. Have a great time! |
Tons of ATM machines in golden triangle areas. Daughter and I each had different ATM (not debit, I had charge cards for purchases) cards and one of the two always worked.
Had TCs but fees were so high, i brought all home. Only used cash at airport currency exchange. |
I agree. Use ATM cards and credit cards. There are tons of machines in all the cities and most of the shops accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard are prefered).

Thanks for your help, everyone.
