i (female) will be travelling in the northern triangle of India for 2 weeks in Dec. Will casual pants be appropriate for sightseeing in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Is a skirt necessary?
|
Hi. I went to Agra in jeans with no problems.
|
I'd recommend loose pants- dark colored, as they can get dirty pretty fast!
More important than pants vs skirt is to wear tops that cover your shoulders and are not tight. I wore loose, longsleeve tops. My daughter wore short sleeve tunic style tops with lightweight cotton wrap pants underneath. |
Are you travelling alone? I'll be in India for 2 weeks starting Jan 1 and will have the first week free to tour. Is it safe to travel alone to Agra, Jaipour, Udaipour...as a single woman? Does anyone know of a place to find a travel partner for these areas?
Thanks! |
Jodyroch, www.indiamike.com may be a site to check for other people traveling same time.

Jodyroch - As a general remark, India is safe. Certainly you don't have to start out afraid of anything. That, however, does not mean you should dispense with the usual commonsense precautions. Don't wander in unfamiliar areas after 9 pm unless the place is sufficiently crowded; be alert for pickpockets; dress sensibly (read non-provocatively): show of cleavage, high skirts, tight-fitting garments are to be avoided lest you be mistaken for a 'loose' woman.
