in transit lounge

Hello all,
We are traveling to Thailand for the first time in November. I have many questions and will be making many posts.
I will be traveling thru Narita from the states and onto Bangkok. Does anyone know about the in transit lounge. I have a 6hr sit time and wonder if I can clear customs and walk round. Also I have a friend flying on another airline and wonder if we will be in the same in transit lounge.
Thanks

AA and JAL are in the same terminal now @ NRT. If you are on standby and do not have status on either AA or JAL then you won't have access to the AC in NRT. With 6 hours you might have time to go to narita for a bit, other will tell you if that's possible or not. If you want to stay in the airport then you could buy a one day pass to the AC and take a shower and freshen up, I think its around US $50.

What airline is your friend flying into NRT on?

My friend is flying on United from SFO.
with the same sit time.

UA is on terminal 1 while JAL/AA are on terminal 2, so you won't be able to meet your friends UNLESS you get to the land-side (ie after immigration/ customs). You should agree with your friend where to meet beforehand.

With 6 hours, you might have 2-3hrs at most to get out of the airport and wonder around Narita City.

I haven't used it myself, but I saw signs for shower facilities. Amenities are better on the land-side than on the air-side.
