I'm absolutely giddy! It's time to plan my second adventure in India!
Well,Fodor Friends,
I had an unforgettable adventure in northern India in 2005.I'll never forget walking through the threshold of the Delhi airport at about 1:00 a.m. thinking two thoughts simultaneously:1.Thank GodI'mgoing home ! and 2.When can I come back? I swear, this is the truth. I made the mistake(or had wonderful foresight) and purchased a ten year visa,so I am determined to return at least once or twice before it expires! I made some wonderful friends from Oz(I'm from the U.S.) and we've had some more wonderful times together.IN 2006 I visited them and in 2007 we travelled in SEA together. Now it's time to return to the scene of the crime,Addictive India! We'll be in the south this time and I couldn't be more excited.Just thought I'd share my glee with you folks, you'd get it. |
Hi massagediva - I remember your trip report from last time. Looking forward to the next one (hint, lol!) Are you traveling with Intrepid again? You should love the south! And I totally empathize with the "thank God I'm leaving/when can I come back feeling.

When are you going? If it's Oct-May then the Andaman Islands are glorious. Just returned to Oz after 5 months in India & Nepal. India is full of totally crazy people who drive one mad as a hatter, BUT it is so unlike anywhere else in the world & I find myself back there at least once a year. Get on with the planning & have fun!

Thanks,Lyndie for the Andaman Islands tip.I was thinking of combining the couple of weeks in the south with something else,I'll put that on the list. We'll be there in November.

Hi massagediva-November would be a great time to go to the Andamans as not quite high season so airfares (see www.makemytrip.com) & room prices should be cheap. Expect to pay around 600r's-1000r's a night for a self contained cottage at Sundaze on Havelock island's beach no.1 or Ocean Pearl or Barefoot Scuba on no.3 (not Barefoot Resort on no.7 which is gorgeous but around 8000r's-12000 r's a night). If you have the money then Barefoot Resort would be fabulous. I can also recommend Little Andaman island which is so far from all the other islands and 6-9 hrs by ferry from Port Blair but it is so glorious. Not much to do and the only 3 places to stay are basic but the remoteness appeals to me. The fish are huge and taste very good! Also Gokarna in Karnataka has so much appeal for anyone looking for an insight into the Hindu pilgrimage path! Have a great time!

ok,Lyndie,now I am tempted!
