ice in hotels in Thailand

I will be taking a 10 day tour of Thailand in Jan. Is it safe to use ice in 3-4* hotels in Thailand?

Thanks, leefly

Generally, yes. If the ice has a central hole in it, you can be sure that it came from an ice-making machine and is safe.

Thank you for your quick reply. I was thinking about having a cocktail in my room before dinner & wondered if I could order ice from room service or get it at the bar.

Your mini bar should have ice in it but quite often, it has been there for ages and is welded into a large block. Ice from either room service or the bar should be fine, I don?t recall many hotels here having ice-making machines available for guests.

no in my opinion...we will sometimes drink table water with ice in five star hotels, but only reluctantly...why risk being ill on vacation....i would not in a 3* but might consider it in a 4*, if they are really accurate star numbers....not out of bkk however!!!

Hi

I have been to Thailand on three vacations and I have never had any trouble due to ice cubes in my drinks. Have a great trip

Ice in hotels/bars/restaurants in Thailand is purified, Thais themselves would never drink ice made from tap water! I think ice often gets a bad rap and gets blamed, but as so often has been mentioned here, with food/drink it is not the food/drink itself but the 'handling' that is the problem, so Ice is pretty ok.
