I just wanted to say a big Thanks to all of you. I have to admit I was kind of embarassed after I excitedly emailed Bob telling him about my selection on Monday, especially with the backlash over the contest on the lounge.
But the truth is, the reaction from everyone here has been the exact reason I love being a Fodorite. It's not what I do that makes me want to be a Fodorite, it's what I get from all of YOU.
I have no illusions that I am an outstanding Fodorite. You all know that I am a bit, uhh, lax when it comes to getting my trip reports out in a timely manner. I am not the most organized trip planner, and definitely not an expert on any subject. I am mostly a good audience (audient?) and an enthusiastic participant.
What I love is how all of you are all so willing to share. People like Bob, Gpanda, Filmwil, Guenmai and HawaiianTraveler, who have spent time and energy planning amazing GTGs. People who have opened their homes to entertain all of us, and others who have more quietly reached out to help each other.
There are those who take the time to write reports that shares the joy and travails of traveling, including some reports so detailed that they can be used as blueprints for my trips (Thanks, Craig!). I love seeing Fodorites figure out careful itineraries and thoughtful solutions for total strangers. The fact that there are too many of you to name in this space says it all. I hope you all know how much each of you mean to this forum.
I'm thankful to those who start campaigns to light candles for Fodorites in need of good wishes, those who share their discovery of great restaurants, tour guides and charities, and those who take the time just to encourage first time or nervous travelers to "go for it."
So, while winning a two day trip to NYC would be a lot of fun, becoming the Ultimate Fodorite is not what is important to me. I've already won just by being a part of this very generous forum.
Thank you.
