How to Purify Water?

Any water purification methods.

Are you planning on drinking water from a stream or brook?:p

I buy bottled water. Depending on where you are it is usually not that expensive.

In a pinch for making my own hot instant coffee (or tea) I have used tap water but not that often. I feel that boiling the water for a while takes care of microorganisms but there may be some metal content in tap water. Google up water quality for the country or location you are interested in. There will be expat forums available with helpful hints.

Will you be permanently based in Asia where a fixed filtration service is required? Or just an ordinary tourist?

Lots of info on the net will come up on your computer with a simple search. (Sample below.)

Good luck.

I write this without suggesting you get your water tested.

We have a well and have a canister filter similar to this:

Pentek 166201, 20" Big Clear Filter Housing

I change the interior filters quarterly. It has been fine for our little cottage for 30 years. Knock on wood!

Are you traveling or trolling? boil the water and be safe.

Good question about traveling! Well, it IS a travel forum. If traveling, drink bottled water and use it to brush your teeth as well. No ice in drinks.

This is sort of a strange post where more information will be helpful for giving helpful advice.

This question is similar to some of the posts I read on Lonely Planet and TripAdvisor from tourists asking about bringing sleeping bags, mosquito nets, solar powered chargers and a trail stove. (I guess they expect to live out in the woods.)

Come on back! Are you a regular tourist with a short visit or moving to some place in "Asia" for work or school?

We don't even know where the OP is traveling or why she thinks the water needs help. My guess is she may jump on soon to tell us about a wonderful water purification gizmo.

Christineanna1 has posted questions such a this and "how much water do I need to drink" all over the web in the last few weeks. Never comes back when people ask what her situation is. I think Janisj is right and there will be a product pitch on all these sites soon.

Whoa, not sure how I got such a huge font on my last reply!
