How to get to Phu Quoc?

My husband and I are travelling to Thailand and Vietnam and are interested in going to Phu Quoc island.... my question is ....how do we get there? I see there are flights from Ho Chi Minh City and you can take a ferry. Is it possible to fly there from Bangkok? or from Da Nang?

Flights originate from HCMC. Last time I looked they were approx. $75 r/t.

There are about 4 flights a day from HCMC to Phu Quoc. In December 2006 we had to fly from Danang to HCMC and then on to Phu Quoc. I think it would have been about $80 roundtrip to and from HCMC, tickets reserved ahead of time by Handspan.

Here's the flight schedule. $67 r/t booked through VN Air.

Thank you all! Looks like we'll have to go through HCMC. What do people think of southern Vietnam in early August? We are considering the following 3 combinations and aren't sure what's best... (We'll have about 10-12 days)

1) Hue & Hoi An (and maybe Mui Ne)
2) Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City & Phu Quoc
3) Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta & Phu Quoc...

We dont' mind bursts of rain, but don't want to be in constant rain the whole time....
