How to get from bangkok to tibet?

Hi all, have met some fellow travellers in Thailand and they raved about tibet. Can someone please tell me what the best way to get from thailand to tibet is? A specific train line? or flight?

Would greatly appreciate it!!!

You might want to buy yourself a good guidebook. There is no direct way from Bangkok to Tibet.

China Southern routing Bangkok -Guangzhou-Lhasa would probably be the easiest routing, you might have to night-stop in Guanzhou depending on flight times.

If you wanted to go by train you can go from Xian or Chengdu, you should find all that on http://www.seat61.com/China.htm , great website for train travel anywhere. The flights of course easiest. You do need, as Kathie says, a good guidebook and then try and find up to date information.

You can also fly from BKK to Kathmandu and either fly or travel overland to Lhasa. Permit is required, so you'll need to check on this.
