How safe is Kuala Lampur right now?

I am planning a trip to KL in late october on business. Wondering how safe it is right now. Also, any must see sights? Where is the best shopping? Crafts, jewelry, DVDs, american brand knock offs?

KL is just as safe as it's always been, or is there something we don't know about?

Everything is as per usual around KL and the rest of Malaysia....? The only thing you really need to worry about safety wise is your wallet in some areas!

Speaking of which, DVDs and brand-name knock-offs are all in Chinatown/Petaling Street nightmarket. Hold onto your bag/wallet there. Crafts (not that Malaysia's really great for that kind of thing) in the Central Market, which is very near Petaling Street.

Menara KL ("KL Tower" NOT Petronas Twin Towers) for a view, Batu Caves... really not a heck of a lot to see in the city, but the Batu Caves are worth getting to (14km out of city centre, but taxis are cheap).

We stopped over in KL for 3 days in July and met a Malaysian businessman on our flight. He told us the best place to shop is Sengai Wang shopping centre about 10 mins from Chinatown by taxi. We bought DVD's, copy wallets, copy Chanel carry bags. It is air cond and where locals shop. Any taxi driver can take you there. KL was a boring destination for us-Hanoi is far better for shopping and hotels & food are very cheap. Good luck.

It's Sungei Wang... yes, that'd be a good place, too. And it's right in the middle of a whole bunch of other shopping malls that might have what you're looking for, too.

If you go to Chinatown, remember that their mark-up can be as high as 80%. Check out all the booths selling what you're looking for, compare, then bargain hard!!
