How rainy is Bali at end of March?
 

Hi. My fiance and I are considering Bali for our honeymoon at the end of March. Bali looks wonderful, but at this time of year, how much rain should we expect? Enough to consider a different destination? Thanks in advance.

I was there 2 yrs ago at the end of March. Over the course of a week, it was nice except for two occasions when it rained. On each occasion, it poured for about 30 minutes or so, then stopped.

I was near Ubud, and the rain was an amazing experience: the sight and sound of it was unforgettable.

Bali is divine. Sorry I don't know about the weather in March, though.

Check out the www.weatherbase.com site for specifics. Also, keep in mind that there is always more rain in the interior of the island (Ubud, etc.) than on the coasts.

I was there April 2000 and rained a couple of times for about 20 minutes and was sunny afterwards.

March is the last month of the rainy season on Bali. If you are going at the very end of March, rainfall should drop off a bit, as April and onwards until about November are low rainfall months. I have been to Bali in virtually every month of the year, and you will always get some rain. However, you will get more cloudy days in March than you would during low rainfall months. One advantage is that this will keep temps down a bit. I personally would not let the possibility of rain stop me from going to Bali in March, as the island is so beautiful and unique that a cloudy day does not really make a difference, i.e., the green rice paddies look even greener. If you are going to lay on a beach, IMO, you should not be gong to Bali anyway, as the beaches are not nearly as beautiful as other destinations. I agree with the above poster about actually liking rainfall in Bali, it can be part of the magic. I remember taking a hike with a guide in the hills outside Ubud and it started pouring; he simply cut off huge banana leaves for each of us to use as umbrellas, and we kept walking ? a great memory!

My opinion about the rain....well, I wish my husband and I would have tried harder to avoid it. Yes, the rain is beautiful. But, when we were there in late October, it rained every day. It was nice when we were in the rice paddies, but none of our pictures of the ocean turned out (just gray muck) and our snorkeling was cold and murky. Worst of all, we were only able to use the bedrooms of our fabulous sprawling villas because much of our living area was outdoors.

Don't get me wrong. Bali was still unbelievable. But try to go at a time when you will have a little sunshine so that you can appreciate all of its beauty.

I was in Bali in the middle of May back in 2001. I was in Ubud. It rained one day out of 4. It was a very intense rain, that I agree with everyone else, that was beautiful. It rained on and off that whole day, but the resort was so nice so we didn't mind spending one day in, watching the rain from the balcony. One other day we went to Kintamani volcano. It was very foggy and lightly drizzling most of the time. So there was barely anything to see. But the other days were bright and clear. Towards the end of the trip, it was clear and really hot for the last two days. I guess the rain in the beginning kept the temperature a little cooler.
I liken it to the rain I'm used to at DisneyWorld in Orlando. Lots of intermittent showers throughout the day. But they are pretty heavy rainstorms for short rainstorms. It wasn't so bad, and I would go again during this time. I love Bali, and the prices are lower in March becuase its considered off-peak.

Hi. March is almost the end of the rainy season in Indonesia. You might get a day or 2 of rain-max! Go to Bali, its fantastic!

My wife and I have just got back from 9 days in Bali starting on March 30. It rained a little on the first day, but thereafter only rained at night and in the early morning. There is of course no certainty that this will happen next March. The waiter at one of the hotels said on April 1, that tere would be no more rain. He was giggling as he said it.
